I’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of The National’s star-studded 59-song Grateful Dead tribute album titled Day of the Dead which drops May 20 nd features Wilco, Mumford and Sons, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, The War on Drugs, The Flaming Lips, Anhoni, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Jenny Lewis, Bruce Hornsby, Phosphorescent, Courtney Barnett, Grizzly Bear members Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen, Sharon Van Etten, Local Natives, The Walkmen, Kurt Vile and the Violators, The Tallest Man on Earth, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Cass McCombs, Angel Olsen, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan, Bill Callahan, Lucius, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Real Estate, Fucked Up, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, and Perfume Genius.

Leon Bridges’ Coming Home out today!

Music fans, if you buy one album this year make it Leon Bridges‘ Coming Home which is out today! The smooth and sly 25 year old has already been compared to Sam Cooke and Otis Redding with his old-school soul sound and while his studio stuff has all the chops to become album of the year, it’s his live show that will have you weak in the knees. So do two things this new music Tuesday, go buy the album and go find yourself a Leon Bridges concert to attend.

Thank you T Bone Burnett! Thanks to the legendary musician, songwriter, and producer, this amazing supergroup of Elvis Costello, Jim James, Marcus Mumford, Rhiannon Giddens and Taylor Goldsmith T Bone Burnett, was put together to record (and now perform!) unused Bob Dylan lyrics written during the original Basement Tapes sessions. A couple nights ago this supergroup took to the stage on Jimmy Kimmel Live and now tonight on Showtime the documentary Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued airs! The documentary goes behind the scenes with the talented songwriters listed above as they record their interpretations of lost and now found lyrics from Bob Dylan’s legendary Basement Tapes Sessions! This year he’s already toured with Jack White and Courtney Barnett as well as making the rounds on the festival circuit this summer and oh man I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this kid. The loooooong awaited debut album by J Cole, Cole World: The Sideline Story has finally arrived.  Currently number one on iTunes, check out this article from the Wall Street Journal on the first artist signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation record label.  After an endless summer that saw the rising artist tour nonstop and introduce himself to new groups of fans at major festivals, today he can celebrate as the album has dropped.

 

New Music: O.A.R. – “Taking On The World Today”

Less than a month until O.A.R. releases King and August 2 can’t come soon enough.  Here’s another track off the upcoming album, “Taking On The World Today” which has now become my latest music obsession.  I also listened to the live version the band played at the Dave Matthews Band Caravan a couple weeks ago in Atlantic City and yeah, WINNER!
