DoYouHearTheMusic.com – 2016 Top Albums

30 Dec

Another year down, another year filled with great tunes. Below is a list (in alphabetical order) of 50 albums I dug in 2016. Normally I shy away from naming my top album because quite frankly I think there is too much great music that gets released throughout the year but this year is different because to me, A Tribe Called Quest didn’t just shock everyone by announcing and releasing its first album in 18 years, coupled with the loss earlier this year of Phife Dawg but it was the perfect album at the right time when “We The People” needed it. We Got It From Here…Thank You For Your Service is the album of the year and if you haven’t for some reason, dive into it, listen closely. We need more like ATCQ in 2017 and the years to come, there is a purpose to this album, find yours as I found mine. Peace + Love + Music. See you in 2017.

What you missed over the weekend: Earth Wind & Fire, Kendrick, Chance, Mumford & Sons, Metallica and more

15 Jun

What did you miss over the weekend? How about a whole lot of sheer awesomeness from some of the biggest stars in music.

Earth Wind and Fire bringing out Kendrick Lamar and Chance The Rapper during their late night set at Bonnaroo. Fast forward to the 1:14 mark to see the magic unfold.

James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica performing the National Anthem at Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

Mumford & Sons bringing out the calvelry to cover The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends” to close out their headlining set at Bonnaroo. Guests included My Morning Jacket, Hozier, Dawes, Ed Helms and photographer-musician Danny Clinch.

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters breaks his leg during a show in Sweden. Finishes the concert like you knew he would, then posts the x-ray image. Rock on! Read more about it HERE.

Now Playing: My Morning Jacket – “Believe (Nobody Knows)”

6 May

Yesterday was a ridiculous New Music Tuesday. We’re talking Mumford & Sons, Tallest Man on Earth, Best Coast, METZ, Mikal Cronin, Django Django, Palma Violets, Hiatus Kaiyote, Ivan & Alyosha but the one release I was most psyched about was by far My Morning Jacket and the release of The Waterfall. So pumped the guys are back with a new album, back on tour and comig to a city near you. If you’ve never been fortunate enough to catch MMJ live, change that this summer. And for you Vegas peeps, they are coming to Brooklyn Bowl for a two night stint, October 9-10!

DoYouHearTheMusic.com – March 2015 Playlist

13 Mar

TGIF! And with that comes some music to lead you into the weekend. Here is the March 2015 playlist for you to click play and listen to. Features new music from Muse, Alabama Shakes, JEFF The Brotherhood, Penguin Prison, Mumford & Sons as well as Django Django, Nate Ruess, Curtis Harding plus great new tracks from buzz acts like Leon Bridges, Kaleo and the buzziest of all, Tobias Jesso Jr.

I’ll be back after SXSW to bring some more new music to you! Until then, rock out with this playlist and catch you on the flip side!

New Music: Mumford & Sons – “Believe”

9 Mar

It has arrived! Give a listen below to the lead single off Wilder Times, the upcoming third album from Mumford & Sons due out May 4. The four fellas put the folk aside in favor of a more electric and rock sound which I personally think will help elevate their live shows and well warranted headlining slots. Read more about the new found sound from Billboard, HERE.
