Came across a couple interesting articles this afternoon:
From Rolling Stone: Ben Harper and the National perform at President Obama rally
From Entertainment Weekly via New York Magazine: Justin Timberlake talks about music, is he done?

Las Vegas to San Francisco here we go as this Saturday, October 2, DJ Ikon, resident DJ at Haze, JET and Rehab at the Hard Rock will be performing at the San Francisco Giants game with the HardNox. The HardNox who’s single “Fist Pump” was featured on MTV’s Jersey Shore, has become an anthem for the Giants this season where they even introduced a First Pump Cam to catch fans going fist pump crazy. If you’re in SF this weekend, make your way over to the ballpark and get your fist pumping in rocking out to DJ Ikon and the HardNox.
If you can’t make it, follow their Twitter feeds for live updates DJ Ikon HardNox
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the 2011 nominees and I have to say, what a class this has the potential to be. The Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper and Tom Waits are five of the outstanding 15 nominees and if those five plus Neil Diamond make it in, it could be quite the entrance ceremony. Check out all the nominees here via MTV.
Love that Jack Johnson decided to have some fun with his new music video “At Or With You” bringing in Andy Samberg to star opposite of him. As many know, Samberg impersonated Johnson on SNL and while Johnson wasn’t a huge fan of it, his retaliation came via the music video as the two duke it out for four minutes. But what I really like is the homepage of Johnson’s website to look like a fight card and that it has both the music video and behind the scenes video. Take a look for yourself HERE.
Last night I had the opportunity to catch Furthur at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas and what a show it was. Sure the guys are showing their age (and not just by using teleprompters) but they can still jam and put on one heck of a performance. Opening with “Feel Like A Stranger” and hearing “Brown Eyed Women” were my highlights of the first set while the second set was just amazing. Hard to pick just a couple favorites but “St. Stephen” and a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Time” rise to the top for me.
Gone are the days of bands making an evening out of a concert and performing two sets so every time it happens I relish those shows and wish it was a staple of every show.

It was a packed house and a great evening for jamming mixed in with a Bill Walton sighting and man how much John Kadlecik sounds like Jerry.
This November Jay-Z has his first book Decoded being released and there are items from New York Magazine and The New York Observer this afternoon that divulge some details about it. Also how cool that he chose one of Andy Warhol’s Rorschach paintings for the cover art.
It seems like Bruno Mars can do no wrong (well let’s leave out his arrest in Vegas last weekend). But seriously every song he touches turns to gold. The latest is “Liquor Store Blues” featuring Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and will be featured on his upcoming album Doo-Wops and Hooligans. I’ve only listened to the track a few times but its Marley’s verses and the guitar rift beginning at 2:26 that get me. Here’s to the next hit song for Mr. Mars.
The offical music video for Donavon Frankenreiter’s latest single “Glow” has arrived. Check it out on GrindTV.com. Loving it!
Michael Franti is one of those artists I could listen to nonstop every day. His latest release The Sound of Sunshine is definitely the most upbeat album in the collection and it works beautifully. I can already tell this is going to be a vacation soundtrack for me in the near future. The title track “The Sound of Sunshine” is a great way to kick off the disc and really get the good vibes flowing and put a smile on your face. “Hey Hey Hey” keeps the positive message going while “I’ll Be Waiting” will catch some off guard as you hear a U2 rift in the background. “Love Don’t Wait” is upbeat and catchy, a bit reminiscent of his last hit “Say Hey (I Love You)” while “The Thing That Helps Me Get Through” is a Lenny Kravitz-esque track. While it’s still early and I need to keep listening, I’m loving The Sound of Sunshine disc.
