Revisited: #Superjam ft. Skrillex & Friends at @Bonnaroo 2014 (Video)

22 Jan

Bonnaroo 2014.  It was halfway through Jack White’s thrashing rock and roll set, @808Dave, @JoleneMannina and I knew it would be tough but we had to leave to make sure we were on time for the Superjam ft. Skrillex & Friends! So off we went, leaving our nearly front row spot for a chance to see something amazing happen. As we ran through the farm we finally arrived at The Other Tent with time to spare, or so we thought! Thanks to a fellow Bonnaroovian, he informed us that a push notification announced a switch in for Frank Ocean with the Superjam so off to This Tent we marched. Finally we really had made it! Thanks to some friends we had been tipped off to the remaining unannounced special guests and just knew this was going to be one of the most incredible performances we’d ever witness. And as people who weren’t there soon after found out, it was just that, an epic performance from incredible musicians. Just click play below to see the Danny Clinch directed documentary showing the preparation leading up to this unreal late night evening of music which started out with the “house band” of Skrillex and Big Gigantic with Thundercat on bass, Mike Einziger of Incubus on guitar and Joel Cummins of Umphrey’s McGee on keys. From there it was on with the special guests as Fatman Scoop hyped the crowd on a couple of tracks, Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead sat in for a few, Craig Robinson and Mystikal (yes, really), followed by the ladies of Warpaint, the incredible Janelle Monae, A$AP Ferg, Zedd on drums, Robby Krieger of The Doors, Matthew Shultz of Cage The Elephant, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and then a four song encore with Ms. Lauryn Hill.  It was simply incredible and something I was in awe of.  Hands down one of the coolest performances I had ever been witness to.  To this day that memory on the farm stands out.  If anything it set a new bar for where Superjam’s of the future need to go.  Sonny Moore, Paul Peck and the Bonnaroo Crew, bravo and I can’t wait to see what awaits at Bonnaroo 2015 in June!  SET LIST and WORDS.

Video: St. Paul & The Broken Bones – “Call Me” on Letterman

21 Jan

If you watch anything today, let it be this video. Earlier this month St. Paul & The Broken Bones were the musical guest on the Late Show with  David Letterman and boy did they deliver.   Besides their soul shaking performance, what struck me as just a sheer bit of awesome was how Letterman didn’t just introduce the band but rather did a whole shtick with Paul Janeway and what he wanted to see out of the band.  And he then followed that up with requesting an encore, he needed to hear more!  Just watch the below.  I for one had not seen Letterman do either of these in all the years watching the program and two, couldn’t be more excited for these fellas who I had perform at Life is Beautiful in 2014.  Countless friends have told me St. Paul & The Broken Bones were their favorite performance and discovery at the festival and I hope that in 2015 more and more discover the greatness of this band and get the opportunity to see them live.  It’s a religious experience!

Where are you going to be 4th of July Weekend? CHICAGO for the Grateful Dead

16 Jan

grateful-dead-fare-the-well-bb2-2015-billboard-510

Music fans unite! July 3-5 Soldier Field, Chicago, be there. The four remaining members of the Grateful Dead (Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann) will get the band back together with a little help from some mighty talented friends including Trey Anastasio sitting on guitar and Bruce Hornsby and Jeff Chimenti on keys. It was July 9, 1995 the scene of what would be Jerry Garcia’s final show before passing and fitting that they return to that very place for these final three shows. Read more HERE from Billboard.

For me, it was June 19, 1995, Giants Stadium. My one and only Grateful Dead show. Bob Dylan opened. That memory has been with me ever since and at every The Dead, Furthur, Phil & Friends, Ratdog, Bob Weir, Dark Star Orchestra, Mickey Hart Band show I’ve attended since. I just hope I’m lucky enough to make it back for these final three shows.
