New Music: Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner – Animal Rights

31 Aug

The anticipated summer collaboration between Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner is finally here! “Animal Rights” is an electro heavy hitter that is sure to be on club playlist rotation for the months to come. I believe the track first debuted three days ago on BBC Radio 1 Live at Creamfields.

New Music: Matt & Kim – Cameras

31 Aug

Matt & Kim who rose to mainstream stardom with their hit song “Daylight” featured in the Bacardi Mojito commercial are back with “Cameras,” the first single off their upcoming LP Sidewalks which drops November 2.

If you have a chance to see this duo live, do it! I did earlier this summer and they put on quite a performance – high energy, fast paced and they came out to Notorious B.I.G. “Running Your Mouth,” what’s not to love?!

New Music: Kanye West – Monster ft. Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Justin Vernon

30 Aug

WOW. If you haven’t heard Kanye West’s new track “Monster,” drop what you are doing and take a listen. Not only does Kanye share the spotlight with Jay-Z and Rick Ross but Nicki Minaj might have trumped the three rap rulers and shines on this. The track also features Justin Vernon of Bon Iver.

If Kanye holds up to his promise of releasing a new track every Friday until Christmas we could be in store for some smash hits week after week. Even if Yeezy says things like “My biggest regret in life is that I’ll never get to see myself perform live,” have to admit, dude can make music and we’ll keep listening.

My Top College Football Fight Songs

30 Aug

Well football season is finally here again and in honor of college football kicking off Thursday, I decided to have a little fun and list my top five fight songs.

5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish – “Notre Dame Victory March

Regardless of my thoughts on their athletic teams they do have an awesome fight song.

4. Miami Hurricanes – “Hail to the Spirit of Miami U

This fight song screams winning and also makes me think of EA Sports NCAA College Football (if you have 2003 with Joey Harrington on the cover, watch the beginning and you can see yours truly)

3. Michigan Wolverines – “The Victors

For some reason when I was younger I knew all the lyrics and would sing along while watching the Wolverines on TV.  It feels good when you hear this song.

2. Tennessee Volunteers – “Rocky Top”  *while not the official fight song, it should be.

I still have vivid memories of Peyton Manning leading the marching band after his final home game.  And if you’ve ever heard Phish cover “Rocky Top,” it’s quite a trip.

1.Arizona State Sun Devils – “Maroon & Gold

You better believe this is number one in my heart! No explanation necessary.

New Music (well sort of): The Dirty Heads

28 Aug

This is like new old music since their debut album came on in 2008 but The Dirty Heads are a group everyone should be listening to.  Any Point In A Storm is a great disc to listen to from beginning to end, beaming of roots, rock, reggae, hip-hop and ska.  Earlier this summer the music video for “Lay Me Down” ft. Rome from Sublime with Rome was released and is the perfect song to ride out the rest of summer and chill to.

Perhaps the most exciting news on The Dirty Heads may be that O.A.R. tapped them as one of the opening acts on their 2010 fall tour.  Click here for their upcoming tour dates.

If you’re a fan of O.A.R., Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, Jack Johnson, Sublime, 311, Fishbone, The Expendables and G. Love there’s nothing else to say except grab the CD and crank up the speakers.

Calling All Hendrix Fans

27 Aug

Looks like you’ll want to book a trip to London between September 15-26 as according to Uncut, Jimi Hendrix’s central London flat will be open to the public as part of the Hendrix in Britain exhibition honoring the 40th anniversary of his death. The exhibition which is located in the same building runs through November 7 but the flat will only be open during the dates listed above.

New Music: The Gaslight Anthem – American Slang

27 Aug

I know the album came out at the beginning of summer but The Gaslight Anthem’s American Slang is one that any fan of rock and roll should have.  The Jersey rockers come out blazing on their third LP and definitely bring a more solid, crisp production throughout.  The title track gets the blood flowing followed by “Stay Lucky” and “Bring It On” which are two songs that grab a hold of you.  “The Diamond Church Street Choir” brings soul to the album while “The Spirit of Jazz” has anthem written all over it.

Best known for their hit “The ‘59 Sound” the guys must have had added motivation in recording this record having already had the opportunity to perform with their idol Bruce Springsteen in the summer of 2009.  With The Boss in their corner, I only wonder what lies ahead for The Gaslight Anthem.

Thanks Paste Magazine: The Roots’ 10 Best Moments on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

26 Aug

It’s definitely a big Roots music week for me after getting the chance to walk them down the red carpet at Miss Universe on Monday and now I must give mad props to Paste Magazine for putting together an outstanding piece, “The Roots’ 10 Best Moments on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”  Heck The Roots are the reason why I started watching the show and now I’m also a fan of Jimmy Fallon.  Do yourself a favor and click here to read the item and check out the videos.

Also if you can find it, DJ Heat had put together a mix CD titled Late Night with The Roots which took some of the best performances to date from the show.  A must have which includes performances by The Roots with the Beastie Boys, Mos Def, Ludacris, Wale, Black Star, Public Enemy, 50 Cent and more.

And don’t forget to pick up The Roots’ new album How I Got Over and on September 21 John Legend & The Roots drop Wake Up!

New Music: The Swiss

26 Aug

I don’t know if it’s just me but there seems to be a TON on great music coming from Australia these days.  The latest on my constant rotation of Aussie beats is The Swiss, a self-described boutique disco group.  The Swiss released an EP titled Bubble Bath earlier this year and it is just killer.  Bringing the noise with synthesized strings, laser infused beats and solid, crisp drums, The Swiss are on the verge of stardom in the states.  If you’re a fan of fellow Australian act Empire of the Sun, be sure to give a listen to these guys.  Click here to check out some tracks on their MySpace page.

Phish Fall Tour 2010 – Still Hope For Vegas?

25 Aug

Phish just announced their Fall 2010 tour and no Vegas dates announced amid rumors of back-to-back nights hitting Sin City. There is still a tiny bit of hope as October 13-14 dates on their schedule are open and it would be a short trip from the Boulder but……..

Here’s a link to the tour schedule from their website.
