BottleRock Here I Come

9 May

I’m missing the first day of BottleRock Napa Valley today but stoked to be heading up to Napa tomorrow morning with my brother to catch a couple days of the first year, four-day festival. A stacked lineup, plenty of great food and wine in addition to plenty of friends making the trek should make for a fun weekend.

Tomorrow it’s all about The Black Keys, The Shins, Alabama Shakes, Vintage Trouble, The Flaming Lips, Dirty Projectors, Andrew Bird, Matt Nathanson, Blues Traveler and more.  Saturday is definitely a power packed day/night of music with Kings of Leon, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Iron & Wine, Jackson Browne, Jane’s Addiction, Donavon Frankenreiter, Allen Stone, Dwight Yoakam, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Sharon Van Etten and more!  Sunday brings it with Zac Brown Band, Michael Franti, Grouplove, Cake, Mavis Staples, Train, The Wallflowers, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Brandi Carlile and more.

Video: Allen Stone – “Celebrate Tonight”

12 Mar

Check it out, brand new official video from Allen Stone for “Celebrate Tonight.” If you’ve never seen Allen Stone live, you need to get on it like yesterday. Five For Friday: Gold Fields, A Slient Film, Royal Teeth, SXSW, O.A.R., Allen Stone, Andrew McMahon and more

8 Mar

Back with a Five For Friday that you should really pay attention to.

  1. If you are in Las Vegas tonight there is a rocking show set to take place at the Hard Rock Cafe on The Strip.  Gold Fields, A Silent Film and Royal Teeth share the billing.  Local band, American Cream opens the show at 8:30 p.m.  If you want to hear some of the rising bands in music today, I highly encourage you to check this show out.
  2. Speaking of shows, there are a ton of SXSW artists rolling through town on their way to Austin.  Beauty Bar has a solid lineup which includes David Wax Museum on Saturday evening.  Also downtown tomorrow night is the Vegas Streats two-year anniversary party.  Going to be a fun one!
  3. O.A.R. dropped dates on their upcoming summer tour which includes a powerful set of opening acts in Allen Stone and Andrew McMahon (Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate).
  4. Hangout Music Festival quietly added their third headliner, Stevie Wonder
  5. Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 7 as the next Life Is Beautiful Downtown Las Vegas Music Showcase takes place at Commonwealth.

If I were going to SF Outside Lands Music Festival, here’s who I’d see

10 Aug

Let me break it down like this.  I couldn’t make the Outside Lands Music Festival work with my dates but for those going, here are the acts I would be seeing and who you need to check out.  Hope y’all going have a great time, especially with all the food and drink to enjoy. And if you see Chefs Sobel and Varley from the Michael Mina stable, tell them I said hey.

Five For Friday: Passion Pit, The Gaslight Anthem, Slightly Stoopid, Firefly, Guest Blogging

20 Jul

Check it out.  I’m trying something new at DoYouHearTheMusic.com with a Five For Friday post.  The Triple F is five nuggets of musical goodness to get you through the weekend.  In other words, the soundtrack to your weekend begins right here!

  1. Passion Pit – yes some “mental health” issues of Michael Angelakos have forced the band to cancel some July dates but next week their new album Gossamer drops and boy oh boy should you be excited.  If you haven’t yet given a listen, hop on over to NPR to stream the album.
  2. The Gaslight Anthem – the Jersey Boys are back with another rocking album, Handwritten, which will also be released next Tuesday. Their fourth album may very well prove to be their best as the fellas once again bring that Springsteenesque rock and roll but with a more refined conviction.  This album can also be streamed via NPR, HERE.
  3. Slightly Stoopid – Miles and Kyle are back with “Top of the World,” the title track off their seventh studio album which drops August 14, 2012.  Give a listen HERE.
  4. Firefly Music Festival in Delaware began today and you better believe if I still lived on the east coast, I would be there right now.  Fantastic line-up which includes headliners The Killers and The Black Keys as well as some of my favorites, Michael Franti, Allen Stone, Lupe Fiasco, GROUPLOVE, Walk The Moon, CULTS, The Head and The Heart.
  5. Earlier this week I had the opportunity to guest blog for my friend Dayna Roselli.  Check out the post HERE.
