MUST WATCH: Garth Brooks Sings “The Dance” To Fan With Cancer In Minneapolis, MN (VIDEO)

11 Nov

I haven’t been a country music fan for a long time, to be honest until a few years ago I didn’t even listen to it but I did have the opportunity to see Garth Brooks at Wynn and that goes down as one of the best shows I’ve EVER seen. After that show I felt like I had known Garth Brooks his whole life. It was a special show and will always be one I remember. Since then, I’ve become a country fan and seen a staggering amount of country shows and always held that Garth Brooks show as the creme de la creme. Also since then, Garth Brooks has headed back on tour now that his daughters are off to college (he’s a family first guy and I LOVE that the most about him) and this video below from his show a few nights ago in Minnesota is even more reason to love one of the most celebrated musicians of all time. You can read more HERE but in short, woman has cancer and holds up sign which reads “Chemo this morning, Garth tonight. Enjoy the dance.” Garth see’s the sign, woman gets to the front row where he serenades her to “The Dance,” hands her his guitar, kisses her on her forehead and then addresses the packed house. Watch it for yourself, it’s a powerful moment.

Music is so powerful and truly the universal language, people like Garth Brooks don’t come along that often and thank God for people like him. So yes, fuck cancer and for everyone battling this terrible disease, I hope and pray you stay strong and beat it.

Music.Mic: 33 Years Later, Bob Marley Still Speaks for Young People

6 Nov

Great quick read from Music.Mic on the legendary Bob Marley. Click HERE to read the post.

But his solutions were of the biggest and truest variety: If the problems he saw in the world are around to this day, so too are the solutions. He blended the practical and the philosophical. “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds,” he sang on “Redemption Song” (a paraphrase of Marcus Garvey), and he inspired millions to do the same. Bono, one of today’s greatest musical philanthropists, has said he carries a copy of the song with him whenever he goes to meet with politicians, prime ministers or businessmen.

“It was for me a prophetic utterance,” Bono said, “or as Bob would say, ‘the small ax that could fell the big tree.'”

Ben & Jerry’s Launches Bob Marley Inspiried Ice Cream

16 Sep

It was bound to happen, Ben & Jerry’s has introduced the newest flavor to its arsenal of ice cream’s with “Satisfy My Bowl”

From the Ben & Jerry’s website:
We’re celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Bob Marley’s Legend album with this tasty tribute, supporting Bob’s vision for a fairer world. In partnership with the 1Love Foundation, this flavour will help to fund a youth empowerment programme in Jamaica. Music to your ears AND your taste buds! What makes this all the sweeter is that the inspired (ahem, LEGEND-ary) flavour name comes courtesy of Camilla Bishop – thanks Camilla, you’re a legend! Peace, 1love & Ice Cream, from Ben & Jerry’s.

Pussy Riot is Coming to Life is Beautiful 2014!

16 Sep

Pussy Riot received international attention after being imprisoned for two years in their home country of Russia, following a performance in 2012. After their release in December of last year, both Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alekhina have been on a mission to raise awareness for those who have been deprived of liberty in camps and prisons around the world. Joining the speaker lineup on Friday, October 24th the feminist punk art collective will discuss their experiences and efforts related to their incarceration, their music, feminism, LGBT rights, anti-authoritarianism and their foundation Zona Prova (Zone of Rights).

NEW ARTIST ADDITIONS to Life is Beautiful Festival

22 Jul

This morning we announced six new artist additions to the Life is Beautiful Festival 2014 lineup! Stoked to keep making this lineup stronger with the additions of Little Dragon, Baauer, Kimbra, Nahko and Medicine For The People, Echosmith and Bear Hands!

Little Dragon – have never played Las Vegas

Baauer – throws down some of the best DJ sets I’ve ever experienced at festivals let alone quickly becoming one of the best nightclub DJs around

Kimbra – is back after close to a three year absence where she was working on her new album The Golden Echo which drops August 19.  Her new single, “Miracle” just dropped and Life is Beautiful is her only festival this year

Nahko and Medicine For The People – get ready to get a little spiritual and dance away with these Portlandians

Echosmith – if you haven’t listened to the song, “Cool Kids” I sure hope you know all the lyrics by October

Bear Hands – oh baby, this is going to be a great show.  Check out their latest single “Agora”

R.I.P. Johnny Winter

17 Jul

I was saddened to hear about the passing of legendary blues guitarist Johnny Winter. Yet another amazing and talented musician who has left us this year. Personally I’m thankful that a spontaneous last minute trip to Jazz Fest this past May provided me the opportunity to hit the late night (and what became legendary) Gov’t Mule and Special Guests show at the Saenger Theatre where Johnny Winter sat in for a few songs.  In what would become one of his final live performances, that was special regardless but now it has a whole new memory for me.

Check out this photo of Warren Haynes and Johnny Winter from Dino Perrucci Photography which amazingly captures that special moment on the evening of May 2, 2014.
