Countdown to Bonnaroo: 6 Days – Artist of the Day: Arcade Fire

3 Jun

Since winning a Grammy for Album of the Year with Suburbs, Arcade Fire has been spreading like a wildfire as headliners for just about every festival in 2011, an honor that is well deserved.  The first time I ever heard Arcade Fire was at VEGOOSE in 2005 after they had release Funeral (which was nominated for a Grammy) and I remember being impressed but not knowing too much.  This year at Bonnaroo I am well aware and can’t wait to see the performance which should be an epic one for sure.

COACHELLA 2012 To Take Place Over Two Weekends

31 May

Check this message straight from the Coachella website. WOW if they can pull this off.

We’re excited to announce Coachella 2012 will be held over TWO WEEKENDS.

In an effort to try and accommodate everyone who wants to experience the festival, COACHELLA 2012 will be two separate events, held over two consecutive weekends. We will attempt to produce two identical festival weekends. That means same lineup, same art, same place, different people.

We know many of you were unable to attend this year’s festival because passes sold out much sooner than anticipated. We were truly surprised by the overwhelming response and remain honored by your passion and enthusiasm. We also know some of you purchased through non legitimate sources and were inconvenienced, gouged or totally scammed. We hope that these changes will give everyone the opportunity to purchase directly from Coachella.com.

Passes go on sale beginning this Friday, June 3rd, 2011, at 10am PST until the following Friday June 10th, 2011, at 10pm PST. This advance sale will be the only opportunity to take advantage of the Coachella Payment Plan. Passes will be available through a payment plan of 10% down and 8 equal monthly payments OR by payment in full. The price of three-day passes remains at $269 plus fees for the sixth consecutive year.

Coachella Weekend 1 – April 13-15, 2012 | Coachella Weekend 2 – April 20-22, 2012

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 9 Days – Artist of the Day: Robert Plant & Band of Joy

31 May

Oh what a day it is, we are single digit days away from Bonnaroo!

Robert Plant, the name says it all.  As vocalist for one of the greatest rock outfits every formed, Plant is not only an icon in the world of music but still going strong and pumping out new tunes.  Touring with his current Band of Joy consisting of Patti Griffin, Buddy Miller, Darrell Scott, Byron House and Marco Giovino, the festival stage should be rocking with this talented group of musicians.  Also with Alison Krauss performing at Bonnaroo as well, I’d say chances are likely the duo who won Album of the Year at the 2009 Grammy Awards have a little something planned.

Now if you are around my age, you never had the chance to see Led Zeppelin live (one of those bands on a short list of if I could see any band/artist today) but the opportunity to see and hear the voice and lyricist who helped pave a soundtrack to my music influences, I’ll take that any day.

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 10 Days – Artist of the Day: Mumford & Sons

30 May

I have seen more concerts than I can remember and Mumford & Sons definitely put on one of the best live performances I’ve been witness to.  The sheer excitement and energy the entire band projects when on stage is magical and they take folk music to a whole new level.  They have risen to stardom in the US rapidly and well worth it as anyone who has seen a live performance can testify to.  Mumford & Sons are one of those bands who play with so much passion each and every night that it’s virtually impossible not to be infatuated with them.  Mixing in a few new songs into the set should be expected (“Lover Of The Light,” amazing) as they take Bonnaroo and play in front of their largest audience yet.

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 11 Days – Artist of the Day: The Strokes

29 May

The multi-year hiatus may have been just what fans and members of The Strokes needed because man do they sound amazing right now.   I caught their first full show in support of Angles a few months ago in Vegas and it was refreshing to hear real rock and roll again.  Having hit the festival circuit hard, The Strokes are back and definitely leaving an impression everywhere they perform.

Sunday 6:45 PM – 8:15 PM – Which Stage

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 13 Days – Artist of the Day: Florence + The Machine

27 May

Lucky number 13.

I’d say in the last year, year and a half Florence + The Machine have taken America by storm so it’s no surprise that Bonnaroo is the latest place Florence Welch and her band will be performing at.  I am fascinated by Welch’s voice and the sound she projects.  All I can think to myself is WOW.  Should be quite the show to see.

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 14 Days – Artist of the Day: Girl Talk

26 May

Two weeks from today Bonnaroo gets under way and what better artist to crank the party up but Girl Talk.  Five albums of mashup and sampling bonanza later, Gregg Gillis is currently one of the most sought after DJs with each show filled with inflatables, toilet paper launchers, balloons and of course, music mayhem.

I remember years ago reading an article about Gillis and learned how he was an engineer by day and DJ by night and without anyone at work knowing, would hop a plane (at times to Europe), play a couple parties and be back in the office Monday morning.  Here’s an article from Pitchfork back in 2007 that may shed some light on the beginnings of Girl Talk.  Besides liking the music, I thought his story was incredibly intriguing.

Sure to be one of the most anticipated late night sets of the festival, straight from String Cheese it will be to see Girl Talk.

Now Playing: Michael Canitrot & Ron Carroll – “When You Got Love”

25 May

I can already tell this is going to be one of my summer anthems.

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 16 Days – Artist of the Day: Gregg Allman

24 May

I am fortunate that at a young age I was introduced to the Allman Brothers Band and haven’t looked back since.  When I think of some of my favorite songs to this day, I have Gregg Allman to thank. Luckily I’ve had the opportunity to see not just the Allman Brothers Band but also Allman solo and what live shows they have been.  With the lingering health concerns for Allman I am going to relish the opportunity to see him once again and what better stage than Bonnaroo.

Sunday 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM – That Tent

Happy Birthday Bob Dylan!

24 May

Happy 70th Birthday Bob Dylan! Today everyone should be celebrating the legendary musician who quite simply is the greatest songwriter of all time.
