Morning obsession, Sheer Mag’s “What You Want.” The Philadelphia outfit will be making their Coachella debut this spring and I have a feeling I’ll be getting up extra early to catch them live. Now I’m just kicking myself for not seeing them at SXSW last year. Give a listen and decide for yourself.
New Music: Royal Teeth – “Wild”
19 MarAh yes, the buzz about bands that lit up SXSW has begun flooding the internet. Glad to have read on numerous sites/blogs that two bands we have been high about for some time, Alabama Shakes and The Lumineers, rocked it down in Texas and since I didn’t have the chance to make it this year, I’m going to be bringing you a recount from a buddy who was on the ground last week.
But in the meantime, thanks to a little appearance on CNN over the weekend (they had a big time setup on site), I’m pushing my hand towards another Louisiana group to make some noise this year (last year was GIVERS), Royal Teeth. If seeing them perform on television was enough to convince me, listening to their Act Naturally EP gave me more reason to give some additional spins. Give a listen below to the indie-pop band and if you like them, head to their website and explore a bit more and download their music.
New Music: San Cisco
16 JanFeel free to do the happy dance, it is Music Monday after all! To get the week started heading in the right direction here’s yet another band from down under, San Cisco. The Australian four-piece released their first EP, Golden Revolver, last year with a second EP, Awkward, slated for release on February 7. They fall into the trending indie-pop category but in a very good way will a playful spirit and fun loving harmonies. If you are a fan of GROUPLOVE, Two Door Cinema Club, Vampire Weekend or The Jungle Giants, you’ll definitely be digging this rising young group from Australia.
Here’s the title track off the upcoming EP, “Awkward.”
New Music Tuesday: Drake, Childish Gambino, Los Campesinos!
15 NovNew music Tuesday is here and a good week if you love hip-hop.
- Drake’s much anticipated sophomore effort, Take Care, drops and should come firing out the gate and reach number one on the charts.
- Donald Glover and his alter ego, Childish Gambino, release his debut album CAMP, a follow-up to his heralded EP.
- Betty Wright: The Movie with The Roots, a soulful album with plenty of guest spots may be the play however.
- And on the indie front, Los Campesinos! are back with their latest full length release, Hello Sadness.
Tonight: The Naked and Famous Live at The Cosmopolitan
30 AugIf you are in Vegas you probably should make your way to The Cosmopolitan tonight as The Naked and Famous are playing out at The Boulevard Pool at 9 p.m. I saw them perform out at Lollapalooza and damn, did they put on one heck of a show. If you’ve never heard of The Naked & Famous, now’s your chance to get up close and personal with the group from Down Under. I honestly don’t think people realize how lucky those of us who live in Las Vegas are to get bands like this to perform right in our backyard. Hope to see you tonight!
New Music: GROUPLOVE
28 JunAnother band I’ve been getting into recently and perfect for summer is GROUPLOVE. Based out of LA but formed out of one wild musical summer on the island of Crete, members hail from Brooklyn, Los Angeles and London. From the first listen to their self titled EP it was as if I was already familiar with the sound and heard these songs before. Each of the six-tracks on the EP present a dynamic indie-rock and pop sound with crisp guitars, solid drums and sheer joy but it is Christian Zucconi’s vocals that stand out and impress me the most. I still can’t pin his voice to who it reminds me of exactly but it captivates you (perhaps a blend of Todd Shaeffer of From Good Homes and Issac Brock of Modest Mouse?).
Fresh off playing the legendary Glastonbury Festival, GROUPLOVE, are touring outside the states but return for gigs at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands this summer. If you’re going to one or both, don’t miss their show; you’ll want to see them before their debut release, Never Trust A Happy Song, drops this September.
