New Music: NewVillager

29 Aug

I’m enamored with NewVillager’s self titled album that dropped earlier this month.  And to be completely honest, I have no idea why but I seriously cannot stop listening to it.  Perhaps it is the vocals in general that are pushed so gracefully or maybe it is the playful harmonies that will easily bring a smile to your face.  Courtesy of multi-instrumentalists Ben Bromley and Ross Simonini, NewVillager’s debut album has it all, from quirky guitars and power synths to flat out rhythm that will get that beat going inside of you.

As for my favorite track so far, “Upholder.”

If you are a fan of Empire of the Sun, MGMT and CULTS, you will definitely dig NewVillager.

New Music: O.A.R. – “Taking On The World Today”

7 Jul

Less than a month until O.A.R. releases King and August 2 can’t come soon enough.  Here’s another track off the upcoming album, “Taking On The World Today” which has now become my latest music obsession.  I also listened to the live version the band played at the Dave Matthews Band Caravan a couple weeks ago in Atlantic City and yeah, WINNER!

New Music: Cults

27 Jun

The last few weeks I have been giving Cults‘ self titled album a bunch of spins and it keeps growing on me more and more. The Brooklyn duo have a retro indie-pop sound that is very soothing and perfect chill disc for the summer. Want another reason to listen, they are going on tour with Foster The People this fall.

Now Playing: Friendly Fires – “Hawaiian Air”

3 Jun

Finally!  Excited these guys are back with a new disc, Pala.  Check out the track “Hawaiian Air” off the new record.

Music Monday: Middle Brother

25 Apr

Another band I am really into lately has been Middle Brother.  Haven’t heard of them? You need to get yourself familiar pronto.  A quasi super group comprised of John J. McCauley III of Deer Tick, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit these fellas are crazy good songwriters and put together a really great disc after first performing together at SXSW in 2010.  Releasing their self titled debut album last month, be on the lookout for the trio when you see any of their bands on festival billings.
