Music Monday: Wrestlers – “Say Anything” (feat. Twin Shadow and D’Angelo Lacy)

12 May

The first time I heard this was back in March and was in absolute awe of this track. If you follow Red Bull Sound Select, you’re probably familiar with the duo of Adian Kennedy and David Elkin as Bagheera who now go by Wrestlers and have a ridiculously amazing song in “Say Anything which features Twin Shadow and D’Angelo Lacy. Give a listen below and don’t be afraid to get up and start dancing. Happy Monday!

30 Jul

At the beginning of June we released the initial lineup for Life is Beautiful; The Killers, Kings of Leon, Beck, Imagine Dragons, Pretty Lights, Empire of the Sun, Passion Pit, Jurassic 5 and a whole lot more.  But what we also promised was more artists would be announced and thus here we are.  Today we announced the additions of Vampire Weekend, Alabama Shakes, Janelle Monae, Cults, Joey Bada$$, Smith Westerns, Nico Vega, The Dig, Dreamers as well as the first details of a collaboration with Red Bull Sound Select to feature artists Wildcat! Wildcat!, Chancellor Warhol, The Kingston Springs, Children of the Night and Tink.   If you haven’t yet checked out the brand new Red Bull Sound Select, you need to get on that like yesterday. So many great artists and an incredible platform for them to blossom through.  As for Life is Beautiful, I hope y’all like the lineup and that I will see you October 26-27 in Downtown Las Vegas for an incredible two days!  More details to come (soon) but in the meantime, how about a little dance party to get this Tuesday going from Ms. Janelle Monae.

Five For Friday, Band of Skulls, Grammys, Mumford & Sons, Dizzy Wright, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Foxygen and more

8 Feb

TGIF and I’m back with a Five For Friday. Been a crazy start to the year and I’ve slacked on getting out some awesome nuggets of music news, new music, concerts and general info.

  1. This weekend in Vegas is going to be rocking with live music. If you had your sights set on the Imagine Dragons show, and feeling bummed since it’s sold out; head over to Vinyl at the Hard Rock Hotel where Band of Skulls will be raging in the intimate room. I promise they will bring it and so should you.
  2. The Grammy Awards are this weekend, don’t miss out as there are going to be some amazing performances. If you recall a couple years ago Mumford & Sons, The Avett Brothers and Bob Dylan all jammed together and look at what that did to propel M&S and TAB to the next level. This year all eyes are on fun. and The Lumineers even though there are countless other amazing musicians performing.
  3. Speaking of Mumford & Sons, did you see the announced this year’s Gentlemen of the Road tour? Catch the US dates and see performances by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Alabama Shakes, fun., Those Darlins, The Vaccines, Half Moon Run, Bear’s Den, Willy Mason and Old Crow Medicine Show.
  4. Monday, February 11 head over to ghostbar at Palms where Vegas’ own, Dizzy Wright will be performing as part of Red Bull’s Red Monday presents. If you want to see the next big thing in hip-hop, you’ll be there.
  5. Next Saturday, February 16 if you are in Las Vegas make sure you head to Beauty Bar where Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Foxygen will be jamming. This is definitely a show you do not want to miss. Trust me.

Revisited: A Musical Saturday Night In Vegas

14 Mar

Last Saturday night was music mania.  Besides being at music festivals I have never experienced so much live music in one night.  The night started across the street from Luxor where The Ting Tings and Cee Lo went back and forth rocking out as part of the Red Bull Sound Clash event.  Very cool concept and both acts ran the gamut on their hit songs as well as performing a handful of covers including The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” and “Rock The Casbah.”    What was definitely the highlight of the night was watching the entire crowd go ballistic when Cee Lo ended the show with “Fuck You.”

From Sound Clash the race was on to make it over to the Cosmopolitan for The Strokes concert.  Thankfully they were 30 minutes late hitting the stage so I only missed the opener.    Playing their first show to support the new album, Angles, they sounded solid and definitely had all rocking the entire show (you could seriously feel the floor shaking throughout).   Being my first time seeing The Strokes live, they exceeded my expectations and put on one of those shows you’ll never forget.

Next up was racing downstairs to catch the last set of Foster the People over at Book & Stage.  Seriously those who were able to catch at least one of the eight sets they played over their four day stint, consider yourself lucky.  It was great to see how much fun the guys were having and exuding an energy that had the packed house appreciating what the next big thing were rocking out with.  While their EP featuring only three songs “Pumped Up Kicks,” “Houdini,” and “Helena Beat” sounded absolutely magical and have netted them sold out shows on their current tour, I can’t wait for the debut album TORCHES to drop in May. Look up the song “Kids” and you’ll know what to look forward to from the band that’s about to become the darlings of SXSW and Coachella.

After Foster The People it was time to take a hard left and hit up Marquee and the end of Kaskade’s set to keep the night of music going.
