Now Playing: @ScreamCreature
27 MayPretty cool new music Tuesday as I get to talk about a project my buddy Chris has been working on for some time called, ScreamCreature. The EP drops today and you can purchase it on iTunes or CD Baby.
Below is background on the project from Chris as well as a player to listen to some ScreamCreature but for me the best part about this project is that he’s been developing it with his brother. There is nothing like family!
“If you’ve seen me post but didn’t know what the hell I was talking about, well it’s a little project I started with my little baby brother, who’s not a little baby, but he’s kind of a big baby for such a big little baby guy. He was the first fan of every band I’ve ever been in: Exposed Youth, Hed, Boss Tweed, Elefant. Yeah, those are all names we actually considered using for the one and only band I’ve actually ever been in… and I can’t believe O.A.R. actually did go by some of those names. Well, Rob sat in the corner in the basement watching every band practice, and he learned to play guitar by watching Marc and Richard. When O.A.R. wasn’t practicing, he and I jammed down there all the time. Then he started writing his own songs. I pushed him to keep writing and he kept writing.
About 10 years ago we were living in Chicago and we stayed up all night one night writing a song called Stand and Scream and we knew the 2 of us had to do somethin’. Now somethin’ had to happen. But life was crazy over the next few years. I was on the road. He moved to LA for a few years and then to San Francisco. But whenever we’d get together back in Maryland for the holidays, we’d go back down to the basement and it was just like being back down there with Marc, Richard, Benj and Jerry. I love that basement. I love how it sounds. We wrote more songs. I invited Rob to Chicago to head into the studio. To fill out the parts, we invited Danny Chaimson who’s always been one of my favorite creative souls to have ever walked the earth and the chemistry was instantly apparent. I love that I’ve only ever been in bands with my brothers.
These songs have been written in Maryland, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, and even Memphis, and we recorded them over a 3 year period in many, many different studios in Chicago, before finally being mixed in Nashville. It’s been one of my favorite adventure’s. As you can see the story of ScreamCreature is either 3, or 10, or 30 years in the making depending on how you tell it.”
Now Playing: Prides – “The Seeds You Sow”
28 JanGot turned onto Prides early last year by their hometown mates, Chvrches, and definitely looking forward to seeing them at SXSW in a couple months. On the heels of their EP being released in March, here’s the title track, “The Seeds You Sow.”

New Music: Thelma Plum – “Around Here”
3 JulIt’s a good day for new music so why not share my latest obsession, Thelma Plum. Personally I think you’re going to fall in love with her sweet and soulful sound, just like I did. The 18 year old is the latest gem to blossom out of Australia and I suggest you give a listen to her EP, Rosie, immediately but in the mean time, give a listen below to “Around Here.”

My New Music: Youngblood Hawke
12 SepBig shout out to my buddy David for turning me on to this band a couple weeks ago. I seriously can’t wait for the rest of the world to discover this group. Expecting some big things after just a four-track EP.
Two words: Youngblood Hawke
Who? A five-piece from LA
What? The next great band you probably haven’t heard of but will be hearing a lot about in the future
Why you should listen? Because these five kids are incredibly talented and bring a fun, happy go lucky sound to life.
A reason you’ll be excited? Listen to their lyrics and chances are you’ll find an instant connection and that it could be on parallel with your life.
Why I’m excited: I listen to A LOT of music but it’s rare for me to get uber excited about a band instantly and that’s the way it was with Youngblood Hawke. “We Come Running” was the first track I listened to and I immediately listened to the other three tracks on the EP and was hooked. From their sound, lyrics, harmonies, it all just was like a perfect storm and I just hope others get to discover this band too.
If you like: Grouplove, Foster The People, fun. and then meld them all together.
Final thoughts: Their EP dropped mid-August and you better hop on the train now because it’s going to be picking up steam fast. It will all make sense when you listen to the EP. Click HERE for the Spotify link to the EP.
News: Walk The Moon to release Anna Sun EP next week
2 FebIn anticipation of their upcoming release on RCA Records, I got very excited when I found out Walk The Moon will be releasing a three song Anna Sun EP next Tuesday, February 7. The EP will feature the hit song, “Anna Sun,” off their independently released i want i want, “Next in Line” and Tightrope” which quite frankly I believe is their best song (and it’s hard not to love “Anna Sun”).
The quartet are mighty talented, bring a ton of energy to the stage every night and there’s a reason they were tabbed as one of MTVs Artists to Watch in 2012. I’ve been fortunate to have seen the guys perform at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and in Las Vegas as well as interview them and all I can say is you are sorely missing out if you are not listening to Walk The Moon.
Another thing to look forward to besides their upcoming tours with Young The Giant and some dates with the Kaiser Chiefs, is their first-ever live performance on late night television April 5 on Late Night wth Jimmy Fallon. Oh man I can’t wait to see if ?uestlove is going to rock the face paint with the fellas.
