Countdown to @LifeIsBeautiful: 5 Days – @TheKillers

20 Oct

In one week, The Killers will take the stage for the final performance of the inaugural Life is Beautiful Festival! Quite fitting, don’t you think? The hometown rockers will play for their largest Las Vegas crowd and I sure can’t wait to feel the energy and be a part of this memorable moment.

Countdown to @LifeIsBeautiful: 11 Days – @XDannyXBrownX

14 Oct

Here we go, the home stretch. I totally spaced on Day 12 of the countdown so we’ll just fast forward to Day 11 and an artist on the rise, Detroit MC, Danny Brown. I really hope you all take the time to see him perform, I promise it will be worth it. And if you dig a little deeper you’ll see he’s collaborated with a few Life is Beautiful artists, including Portugal. The Man and Purity Ring.

Countdown to @LifeIsBeautiful: 19 Days – @AlabamaShakes

6 Oct

“Don’t worry sweet baby! Don’t you ever worry ’bout a thing. Put them worries on the shelf ‘n’ learn to love yourself Don’t be your own worst enemy.”

If you’re like me, you’re counting down the days until Brittany Howard and her crew hop up on stage at Life is Beautiful and do their thing. If you’ve never seen the Alabama Shakes live in concert, you’re in for a treat.  Every time I’ve seen them in concert, they haven’t disappointed.  From a small sized tent to a massive festival field and an indoor concert hall, they’ve just crushed it and I can’t wait for them to bring their sweet sound to Life is Beautiful.  Gonna be a rock and roll good time!

Countdown to @LifeIsBeautiful: 20 Days – @ZZWard

5 Oct

The countdown to Life is Beautiful Festival continues and today is a ZZ Ward kinda day. If you aren’t familiar with ZZ Ward you have less than three weeks to fix that. The fast rising singer/songwriter had her first stint in Las Vegas playing Book & Stage about a year and a half ago and now she returns on the big stage.

VIDEO: ZEDD at The Independent (8.8.13)

9 Aug

Getting Outside Lands started a night early, here’s a clip from Zedd’s gig last night at The Independent. Place was bananas.  See you later today, Zedd.

One good thing about music….. thank you @EdwardSharpe for the reminder

2 Aug

It is the universal language.  It unites people.  It makes people forgive, forget, heal, rejoice, smile, etc.  It’s a part of why I believe the festival culture in America is so coveted now.  You name it and music really can be the most powerful thing we have.   And I challenge anyone to find a band out there today that better epitomizes spreading joy and happiness than Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.  Last night in Vegas I had the chance to once again see the band in concert but this was the first time out of a festival setting.  What I can tell you is there was not one person in the crowd without a smile on their face.  Last night was truly an example of how powerful music can be and put a positive influence on people, even if only for that evening.  What Alex Ebert and crew do is a sheer masterpiece.  They make the crowd feel as one with the band, radiate positivity and bring a crowd of strangers together.   #ThatsWhatsUp.

Add in spending the evening and experiencing the concert with some great friends and there’s not much more that could have made a Thursday night much better.

Happy Friday!

8 amazing outdoor music venues via CNN Travel

12 Jun

If you’re at all like me, sometimes it’s not just about the band or artist you are going to see in concert but rather the venue may be the bigger draw.  When you get the holy grail of venues and your favorite band together, it quite possibly can be the best show you’ve ever seen. And with that, here are 8 amazing outdoor music venues complied by CNN Travel.

I can’t, won’t and will never argue with the first one on the list, Red Rock Amphitheatre.  I’ve seen shows in all different places, spaces, countries, etc. but nothing compares to Red Rocks.  I recall driving up to the venue with my head out the window like a little kid pulling up to Disney World.  It truly is a magical place and I hope everyone gets to experience a show there at least once.

Revisited: My week that was live music in Vegas! Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Deap Vally, Vampire Weekend, New Order, Portugal. The Man

14 Apr

Reason number 6,798 why I love Vegas; getting to wake up in my own city after seeing a marathon of Coachella performers in my own backyard and not having to camp out. More specifically, this week, seeing 90% of the shows at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The entertainment team at the property does an awesome job scooping up the Coachella talent for plays in Vegas and it leaves me very happy.

It all started on Wednesday night for Portugal. The Man and Tegan and Sara.  PTM never disappoint and even with a short set (they were the openers) it was still a great one.  Tegan and Sara definitely played to their market and left fans beaming with excitement.

Thursday night the crowd was on rocking for Johnny Marr and New Order.  In what was essentially a flashback to my days as a child, this show was awesome and getting a chance to see such legends before they put down the microphone was something I’m super thankful I had the chance to do.

Friday, Friday, Friday!!  Sadly I missed Tanlines (ugh, so bummed) but Vampire Weekend quickly made that disappear as they came out firing and had the crowd in their grasp the entire show.  I don’t know about anyone else but I freaking love “Diane Young” and can’t wait to hear the new album.   Later that night, it was off to see one of my favorite DJs, Benny Benassi at Marquee and the place was stupid packed with revelers.

Saturday I dropped by to support some friends at Mix 94.1 during their Pet-a-palooza which featured music by Youngblood Hawke!  Fun little afternoon retreat and a LOT of dogs!  At night it was the evening I had been most excited about for a long time.  Finally it was my chance to see Deap Vally!  If you don’t know who these two gals are, you need to like yesterday.  I may have been one of about 50 people rocking out to them but I didn’t care because these chicks are a page out of Black Sabbath, The White Stripes and the likes.  After warming up the stage it was time for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and what a show it was.  Jenny O, simply awesome and owned the crowd with a righteous performance spanning the YYY’s catalog of songs.

So yeah, no fun at all this past week!  And to think I’m taking a break, not so fast.  Monday it’s Beach House, Tuesday it’s The xx, Wednesday it’s Local Natives and Of Monsters and Men, Thursday Hot Chip, Friday The Postal Service and Saturday Band of Horses.  May try to squeeze in a country show too (yes, I’m serious).

Viva La Musica!!

Check out some rocking photos from my friend and rock and roll photographer, Erik Kabik.
