DoYouHearTheMusic.com 2013 @SFOutsideLands Playlist

4 Aug

Figured since I am heading up to Outside Lands in a handful of days, why not put together a little playlist leading up to the festival.  A great lineup awaits and I only have two words, PAUL MCCARTNEY!   I cannot wait to see Sir Paul perform live, this is truly going to be a moment in time where everything else is going on pause for me.

Heading up to Outside Lands as well?  Here are a handful of acts I suggest you make your way to see:

  • twenty one pilots – look up their story when you have time but for now, click HERE
  • Phoenix – check out their production on their current dates
  • Vampire Weekend – Modern Vampires of the City should be up for album of the year
  • Jurassic 5 – if you never had the chance to see them back in the day, do yourself a favor now
  • D’Angelo – everyone should see him perform at least once
  • Zedd – fastest rising DJ in the world right now
  • The Head And The Heart- to this day one of my favorite shows I’ve seen at a festival
  • DAWES – their live show puts their albums to shame
  • Gary Clark Jr. – take the time to see this man
  • Wild Belle – Natalie Bergman’s voice will have you at the first note
  • Foals – see what everyone is talking about
  • King Tuff – stoked for this set
  • Rhye – talk about a rise to stardom, this should be a stellar performance
  • Deap Vally – you want to see two chicks rock, here’s your chance
  • Milo Greene -super talented quintet
  • The Growlers – hooked on these guys thanks to a friend’s suggestion
  • MS MR – fun show
  • The Wild Feathers and The Easy Leaves – good way to start your Sunday at OSL

One good thing about music….. thank you @EdwardSharpe for the reminder

2 Aug

It is the universal language.  It unites people.  It makes people forgive, forget, heal, rejoice, smile, etc.  It’s a part of why I believe the festival culture in America is so coveted now.  You name it and music really can be the most powerful thing we have.   And I challenge anyone to find a band out there today that better epitomizes spreading joy and happiness than Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.  Last night in Vegas I had the chance to once again see the band in concert but this was the first time out of a festival setting.  What I can tell you is there was not one person in the crowd without a smile on their face.  Last night was truly an example of how powerful music can be and put a positive influence on people, even if only for that evening.  What Alex Ebert and crew do is a sheer masterpiece.  They make the crowd feel as one with the band, radiate positivity and bring a crowd of strangers together.   #ThatsWhatsUp.

Add in spending the evening and experiencing the concert with some great friends and there’s not much more that could have made a Thursday night much better.

Happy Friday!

DoYouHearTheMusic.com August 2013 Playlist

1 Aug

It’s that time again! New month, new playlist. 23 tracks to kick your summer up a notch. New music from well known artists, Kings of Leon, Janelle Monae, John Mayer and more.  And music for some bands you need to discover if you haven’t already like Jagwar Ma, Panama Wedding and Man Man.  Hope you enjoy!

Now Playing: Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers – “Hey Stranger”

30 Jul

The self titled album from Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers drops August 27 but lucky for you, you don’t have to wait to hear “Hey Stranger,” the second single off the upcoming album. This track along with the first single, “A Little Too Late” are bound to be on repeat for you for the rest of the summer.  And if you don’t live in the desert like me where it’s hotter than hot, you’ll probably be jamming this in your car with the windows down.

Not familiar with Nicki Bluhm?  Click HERE and check out this feature from CBS Good Morning.

New Video: Avicii – “Wake Me Up” ft. Aloe Blacc

30 Jul

If you read my blog you know how much I love this track (let alone a fan of both artists) but now comes the video.  I dig it, cool stuff, story line, etc. but I do have to point out some nifty sponsorship placement in here by Ralph Lauren (they endorse Avicii) and the Denim & Supply line of the brand.  Check out 1:30 mark.

@VampireWeekend, @JanelleMonae and more added to @LifeIsBeautiful #Festival

30 Jul

At the beginning of June we released the initial lineup for Life is Beautiful; The Killers, Kings of Leon, Beck, Imagine Dragons, Pretty Lights, Empire of the Sun, Passion Pit, Jurassic 5 and a whole lot more.  But what we also promised was more artists would be announced and thus here we are.  Today we announced the additions of Vampire Weekend, Alabama Shakes, Janelle Monae, Cults, Joey Bada$$, Smith Westerns, Nico Vega, The Dig, Dreamers as well as the first details of a collaboration with Red Bull Sound Select to feature artists Wildcat! Wildcat!, Chancellor Warhol, The Kingston Springs, Children of the Night and Tink.   If you haven’t yet checked out the brand new Red Bull Sound Select, you need to get on that like yesterday. So many great artists and an incredible platform for them to blossom through.  As for Life is Beautiful, I hope y’all like the lineup and that I will see you October 26-27 in Downtown Las Vegas for an incredible two days!  More details to come (soon) but in the meantime, how about a little dance party to get this Tuesday going from Ms. Janelle Monae.

Now Playing: Man Man – “Head On”

24 Jul

Man Man – “Head On.” I was trying to save this for the August playlist but thanks to my buddy, DJ M!keattack we’re gonna put it up as the song of the day. This song has been stuck in my head and on repeat for the past two weeks. I just can’t get enough. Have you heard?
