This Is America

7 May

This Donald, we’ve been waiting for someone like you! History already has a place for this video, this message, these lyrics, the symbolism and yet it’s still being written, dissected, shared, conversed, thrusted into the spotlight. Time to wake up! Thank you, Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino. The world is watching and listening.

Hopefully this mix let’s you listen to some new music from familiar names and discover new tunes from your soon to be favorite artists.

RIP Butch Trucks

25 Jan

Sad day to learn of the passing of Butch Trucks, original drummer of the legendary Allman Brothers Band. This one stings a bit more as ABB are one of my favorite bands and nothing will take away from that first time I got to see them play in 1999 at Mesa Amphitheater in Arizona.  The band like many of their songs (including my #1 song) stick with us on a daily basis. Legendary band, legendary songs, legends of music. You will be missed, Butch, rest easy.

R.I.P Phife Dawg

23 Mar

These are getting really sad to keep writing in 2016. Gone way too young, R.I.P. Phife Dawg.

My love of hip-hop I can say was sprouted from listening to A Tribe Called Quest. Sure there were others too but there was always something about ATCQ, a realness and authenticity. Like other groups, they had their issues and eventually disbanded (and got back together on special occasions, lastly I believe in Nov. 2015 on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon) but together, they were simply the best.

“You on point, Tip?”

“All the time, Phife.”
