New Music: Waxahatchee – “Air”

13 Jan

Turn it up, first listen to the brand new Waxahatchee track, “Air.”  The lead single is off the forthcoming album Ivy Tripp from Katie Crutchfield and her band which is due out later this year.  Expect big things to come in 2015 including festival dates.

RIP Samuel Goldwyn Jr.

Taking a break from music for a moment.

Back in 2003 I spent the summer following graduation in Los Angeles working a couple internships, one being with Samuel Goldwyn Films (we’re talking Mystic Pizza, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty). Little did I know this was going to be my entry into the wonderful world of entertainment. As I learned of the passing of Samuel Goldwyn Jr. I couldn’t help be think back to that summer and reading through potential scripts for the company to purchase, attending actor’s studio nights (okay only once) and screening movies.  It wasn’t the longest internship but it provided me with a whole heap on knowledge in a short time that I’ve carried with me to this day. The entertainment industry lost a great one as did Samuel Goldwyn Films. Luckily for Samuel Goldwyn Films, it’s in the best hands with Myer Gottlieb as president, and I should know as he took a chance on a young 21 year old me.  RIP Samuel Goldwyn Jr.

New Music: Zac Brown Band – “Homegrown”

12 Jan

Music Monday brings us a nice little gem as the Zac Brown Band have dropped “Homegrown,” the first track off the upcoming album due out this spring.

Also you’ll want to click HERE to read an interesting article from Rolling Stone Country about the album and new record label which includes this nugget of info: “this upcoming LP will be the first project released by the lead singer’s own Southern Ground Artists in partnership with three other labels: Big Machine Label Group, John Varvatos Records and Republic Records.” Fun stuff ahead for ZBB!

Now Playing: Years & Years – “King”

7 Jan

Plenty of excitement on this end for “King” the new single from Years & Years. It just premiered on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe today and you can listen below. Big things to come in 2015 for this trio.

Now Playing: Dan Deacon – “Feel The Lightning”

6 Jan

More new music I’m looking forward to in 2015: Dan Deacon. Just before the end of 2014, “Feel The Lightning” was released and will be featured on his new album, Gliss Riffer, which drops February 24. Let’s hope it’s a big big year Deacon.

Now Playing: POND – “Elvis’ Flaming Star”

5 Jan

I’m beyond stoked for the new album from POND, Man, It Feels Like Space Again to be released later this month. Not familiar with this band from Down Under? Here’s a few reasons why you should make yourself:

  1. It consists of Jay Watson of Tame Impala and former Tame Impala touring member Nick Allbrook
  2. Kevin Parker aka Tame Impala played drums on one of POND’s albums
  3. You probably guessed it, their sound is psychedelic rock

So basically if you dig Tame Impala, you’re going to be loving POND.

Now on to the music. Give a listen to “Elvis’ Flaming Star” the lead single off the upcoming album. Hope you enjoy!

Now Playing: Modest Mouse – “Lampshades on Fire”

5 Jan

New year, lots of new music to look forward to.  I for one can’t wait Strangers to Ourselves, the sixth studio album from Modest Mouse which is set to drop on March 3.  Here’s the first single from the upcoming album, “Lampshades on Fire.”

Revisited: Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga – 12.31.14 – Goodbye 2014, Hello 2015!

2 Jan

First post of 2015 takes us back to the last hours of 2014 where I had the pleasure of attending the Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga concert inside The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

My New Year’s Eve for 10 of the last 11 years have involved music (be it nightclubs or concerts) so to spend December 31 surrounded by music wasn’t a surprise but on this night, this show was different, this was special. Seeing living legend, Tony Bennett was just spectacular and at 88 years old he makes it look so easy on stage. Add Lady Gaga in a role that I believe she was born to perform in (and with Tony Bennett) and what happened was just a magical evening of music. Yes it was NYE and spirits were high, champagne was flowing and faces were all grinning ear to ear but take away all that and you had two dynamic performers on stage in what was a perfect ending to 2014 and a welcomed way to usher in 2015.

Click HERE to read a great piece by Variety on the show and HERE for one from The Hollywood Reporter.
