Revisited: Dave Matthews Band | 6 5 12 | Boston, MA (Setlist) (Photos) (Download)

6 Jun

East coast trip took me to Boston for a few days and lucky for me, Dave Matthews Band just happened to be in town during my stay.  Last night I attended yet another DMB show and all I can say is this was my favorite show I have seen to date.  Even in the chilly weather (you could see your breath, it was that cold) couldn’t put a damper on this evening in which the band was dynamite and the energy was through the roof.  Being night one of two sometimes you never know what to expect on these double-dip shows but I for one may have been the happiest person in the crowd as I finally heard “The Song That Jane Likes” live!  My favorite song the band had yet to play in some 20 something shows I’ve seen (and I assume many haven’t either).  In the back of my mind I knew there was an outside chance since the guys busted it out last week in Scranton (and it was fumbled a bit at that show so I had my doubts) and when Dave said “I have a sister and this is…” I was in music euphoria.  Add in playing “Save Goodbye” and I heard two songs I’ve been waiting every show for in one night!!  From beginning to end the show was sensational and packed a punch that makes me want to venture out on the road to catch a few more gigs this summer.  A great balance of old and new, some rocking jams, Jeff Coffin continues to amaze me, and it sure looks like the boys are having a ton of fun out there this year.

Livestream of Bonnaroo? Check. Tickets to a festival? Your chance to win big

6 Jun

Okay music fans, we are inching closer and closer to the best four days of the year, BONNAROO!!  But if you can’t attend, I highly encourage you to watch the festival from the Dell Livestream at www.youtube.com/bonnaroo.  Hope you are able to catch at least a handful of shows I’m excited about from the Countdown to Bonnaroo over the last 30+ days and find yourself some new bands to be grooving to.  Just because you can’t be on the farm doesn’t mean you can’t experience some of the joy and excitement that will be occurring and in true Bonnaroo fashion, surprises are always bound to happen so the more you tune in, the more you can see live!  The stream runs June 8-10 so check back with me after the festival to see what you missed on night one, June 7 when I’ll for sure be catching The Dirty Guv’nahs and Alabama Shakes among a handful of other talented musicians.

Want to attend a festival like Bonnaroo?  Thanks to the Dell Festival Tour, they are making your dreams come true, giving away trips for you to attend Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits.  Pretty cool, huh? All you have to do is click here and ‘like’ them on Facebook for your chance to win a Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook, more Dell prizes, festival tickets or exclusive VIP upgrades. Also, Dell are now running a PhotoFest competition on Twitter so post your best pics from Bonnaroo (and other festivals) with the hashtag #DellLive to win prizes!

Hope to see you at the next festival and if you are making your way to Bonnaroo, come find me and grab a DoYouHearTheMusic.com sticker.  Limited edition, once they are gone, it’s time for sticker number two.

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 2 Days – Artist of the Day: Phish

5 Jun

I think everyone would agree that Phish has played a monumental role in both the music industry and festival circuit, and with a legion of fans all over the globe, it should be quite the special performance closing out Bonnaroo XI.  Slated to play two sets, it should be four hours of bliss on the farm as the festival comes to a close for another year.

I remember the first time seeing Phish was in 1996 at America West Arena in Phoenix (part of my DoYouHeartheMusic.com ticket stub background image) and how excited I was to finally see them live.  The last Phish show I saw was a decade ago, way too long but what is also making seeing them at Bonnaroo that much more special for me.

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 3 Days – Artist of the Day: Alabama Shakes

4 Jun

Back in November 2011 I stumbled upon the Alabama Shakes and was completely overwhelmed with what to me is one of the greatest voices I have heard in my 30 years of existence.  Brittany Howard had me from the first note she sang.  It was like she was channeling a sound that has been missing from rock and roll for decades and Muscle Shoals received a revival as unexpected and welcomed with open arms.  Every chance I got I was rushing to tell anyone, “you’ve got to hear this band, your mind is going to be blown” and since I’m happy to gloat a little to being on the blog prior to MTV and Rolling Stone, and they have become the talk of the business, garnering well deserved national attention (SXSW appearances pushed them over the top) while releasing their debut album, Boys & Girls.

While there is no “headline act” at Bonnaroo on Thursday night, you may as well give that honor to the Alabama Shakes and their 11:30 p.m. slot in This Tent. No disrespect to any of the other super talented acts performing at the same time (Glossary for one), but this is where everyone should be.  Get ready to rock your faces off with one of the best out there today.

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 4 Days – Artist of the Day: GROUPLOVE

3 Jun

You ever come across a band and just know they are destined to be stars?  Shortly after Bonnaroo last year I discovered GROUPLOVE and have been hooked and a supporter ever since.  Not only do they have one incredible story of coming together but their music is truly some of the best out there and for their debut album, it’s insanely good. Since rocking Lollapalooza last year, releasing their debut album Never Trust A Happy Song, appearing on Conan and blowing him away, destroying Coachella this year, and more, these kids are on fire and only garnering more acclaim.  If you want to see what chemistry on stage is like, all you have to do is watch GROUPLOVE perform and you’ll understand.  Their happy-go-lucky spirit is contagious and their set will most definitely be one of the best at Bonnaroo this summer.

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 5 Days – Artist of the Day: The Avett Brothers

2 Jun

And here we are the home stretch. Can you feel the excitement?
“I and Love and You” seriously so looking forward to hearing those words belted out by everyone at Bonnaroo. Yes, The Avett Brothers are extremely talented and yes, they have released some incredible albums but nothing compares until you have the opportunity to see them live. I remember being in awe of how amazing their live show was. Be careful of pigeonholing them as a “folk” band, these boys shred and rock out like there is no tomorrow. It is as energetic of a performance as you can get and impossible to find anyone around you without a smile on their face and dancing, jumping, singing along.

Revisited: Allen Stone | Las Vegas | 5 31 12 | Book & Stage at The Cosmopolitan | Setlist

1 Jun

Last night Allen Stone returned to Las Vegas and Book & Stage at The Cosmopolitan to perform yet another incredible set.  As one of the most gifted up and coming entertainers, Stone was on-point from beginning to end and had the solid crowd grooving during his entire 90 minute set.  If you are in Vegas tonight and tomorrow, don’t miss the chance to see him.

One note on the setlist below, Superstition was sandwiched between “Unaware” and “Satisfaction.”

Now Playing: Martin Solveig “The Night Out” Full Band Version

1 Jun

Martin Solveig dropped “The Night Out” which Madeon then remixed and in turn, Martin Solveig has now taken that remix and recorded the version with a live band!  Simply AMAZING.  Listen for yourself.  Big shout out to my friend Natalie for peeping this first.

My review of Young The Giant in Vegas SEVEN (5 31 12 Issue)

1 Jun

No secret if you read this blog you know how big a fan of Young The Giant I am so naturally when the opportunity came to review their most recent show for Vegas SEVEN, I jumped on it.  My review appears in the May 31 issue and since I can’t be biased in my reviews, there in print lies my true thoughts on the show.  Having seen these guys a handful of times, this was by far the most disappointing show to date and really a shame since I’ve seen them absolutely crush it the other times.  Hoping when I see them again, next week, that energy and enthusiasm is back!
