And at first glance what a great one it is. October 12-14 Zilker Park, Austin, Texas, plan to be there for Austin City Limits. Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, Jack White, Florence + The Machine, The Avett Brothers, Avicii, Bassnectar, The Rotts and Jack White headline the final festival of the season. Add in acts like Esperanza Spalding, Alabama Shakes, The Lumineers, Michael Kiwanuka, First Aid Kit, Gary Clark Jr, He’s My Brother She’s My Sister, Dry The River, Royal Teeth, Colorfeels and more; WOW!
New Music: The Apache Relay
17 JunA band I recently started listening to and also had the opportunity to see live at Bonnaroo was The Apache Relay. The roots-rock quartet hailing from Nashville, Tennessee is a band everyone needs to check out, especially if you are a fan of The Avett Brothers, John Butler Trio and The Boss, Bruce Springsteen. On their latest record, American Nomad, the band’s energetic grooves and vocals of Michael Ford Jr. come together to unleash a sound that is contagious from start to finish; bouncing between soft, melodic sing-alongs and upbeat jams. I will also say that while I dig the disc, seeing them live is where it’s at.
And one more reason to love and listen to The Apache Relay, they have already been on the road with one of my favorite artists, G. Love.

April 2011 Playlist
19 AprHere is a playlist for April. I’m going to try and make a new one each month so be on the lookout. These selections are a mix of the artists I’ve been listening to lately. Let me know what you like, don’t like, want to hear more of. Weather is getting nicer out so the need for driving and pool music is a necessity!
Cheers!

New Music: G. Love – Fixin’ To Die – CD
18 FebG. Love & Special Sauce has had their share of success over the years while G. Love aka Garrett Dutton’s solo projects go mostly unheralded, until now. With assistance from The Avett Brothers who produced and sit in as the band on Fixin’ To Die to give it that back down south soul, the Philadelphian shines with his blues music and heartfelt lyrics. The album’s title track, a Bukka White original, sets the stage as a serious boot stompin’ jam while “Milk & Sugar” raises the energy level as a happy go lucky sing-along. “Just Fine” a love song, is true G. Love with his one-of-a-kind rhyming and the guitar riff is reminiscent of Blues Traveler’s “Hook.” But what may stand out most is Dutton’s cover of Paul Simon’s “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover;” which starts out as a tranquil rendition that evolves into a dominant harmonica and banjo jam session. If you’re looking to rid yourself of winter, scoop up this disc and watch as the sky opens up and lets the sun shine down.
CD drops on February 22 but head on over to Conan O’Brien’s website HERE to stream the album.
