New Music: Dead Fingers

16 Mar

It’s Friday and why not kick the weekend off with some new tunes!  Coming to you from husband and wife due, Taylor Hollingsworth and Kate Taylor, here is Dead Fingers.  And while it may sound like a punk or metal band, it’s the complete opposite. The couple released their self titled debut album a couple of weeks ago and if you are a fan of guy-girl duos like I am (think Jenny & Johnny, The Civil Wars, She & Him, Sam & Ruby), you should really dig their work.  Give a spin, if you like, listen to more and snag yourself the album as this could very well become the album on repeat for you this spring.

Photos:Dave Matthews Performs at 9th Annual John Varvatos Stuart House Benefit

13 Mar

I wanted to share some really awesome photos Erik Kabik (www.erikkabik.com) was able to capture over the weekend at the 9th Annual John Varvatos Stuart House Benefit at John Varvatos in Los Angeles, CA on March 11.  The event which Dave Matthews was on hand to provide the entertainment, was co-chaired by Leslie Mann & Judd Apatow and brought together the entertainment, arts, fashion and philanthropic communities in Los Angeles to raise funds for Stuart House. For those who are unfamiliar, Stuart House provides free, 24-hour emergency medical care, state-of-the-art forensic services, professional counseling, advocacy, Court School and other services to help child victims and their families recover from the trauma of sexual abuse.

Revisited: Bela Fleck & The Flecktones at The Smith Center

13 Mar

Last evening I had the pleasure of seeing the first concert (if you don’t count the grand opening last weekend) at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts as Bela Fleck and the Flecktones performed in front of a packed house.  It was hard not to marvel at Reynolds Hall when you first walked in and I know I wasn’t the only one who kept looking around at every little detail imaginable.  The Smith Center is absolutely gorgeous, the sounds quality has to be the best in town, even the seats are comfy and have plenty of room and quite frankly, the venue is going to change the performing arts scene in Las Vegas. It truly is an exciting time for the Las Vegas community and to see the direction the performing arts program in the city is headed.   I highly recommend if you have an opportunity to see a performance at The Smith Center, you do so.

As for the concert itself, wow. With the original lineup intact, it was a wonderful evening of talented musicians on stage, sharing their love of music for over two hours.  Here are some photos below taken by Erik Kabik (www.erikkabik.com).

Now Playing: Oregon Bike Trails – “Cayucas”

8 Mar

Been slacking a bit this week on posts but looking to redeem myself with this little ditty, “Cayucas” by Oregon Bike Trails. OBT is actually the musical project of Zach Yudin and if anything it’s going to make you want to get in the car, drive to the closest beach and just chill.
