This weekend up in San Francisco marks the sixth installment of the Treasure Island Music Festival. The festival which not only is in a kick ass city, also has a knack for grabbing top talent and acting as a springboard for younger bands before they break it big (I urge you to take a look at past lineups). This year features headliners Girl Talk and The xx. As for the complete line-up:
Saturday: Girl Talk, The Presets, Porter Robinson, Public Enemy, SBTRKT, Tycho, AraabMuzik, Matthew Dear, Toro y Moi, Grimes, The Coup, K.Flay, Dirty Ghosts.
Sunday: The xx, M83, Gossip, Best Coast, Joanna Newsom, Divine Fits, Youth Lagoon, Los Campesinos!, The War On Drugs, Ty Segall, Hospitality, Imperial Teen, The Neighbourhood.

Who? The dynamic duo of Keegan DeWitt and Jeremy Bullock
What? A poppy sound you’re gonna love. Filled with heavy synths and bright guitars; and two voices that complement each other flawlessly, you’ll be grooving from the start to Wild Cub.
Why you should listen? In August the duo dropped their debut LP, Youth. Plus if you want a little flashback to the ‘80s blended with today, you’ll really dig this.
A reason you’ll be excited? PASTE, SPIN, MTV, Filter Magazine, IFC, Consequence of Sound and more are all on the bandwagon of the Nashville duo and appearances at festivals like SXSW and Bonnaroo doesn’t suck either.
Why I’m excited: Listen to the songs “Thunder Clatter” and “Colour” and you’ll be hooked.
If you like: MNDR, White Arrows, Kopecky Family Band, Youth Lagoon.
Final thoughts: I’m kicking myself again for discovering another band post Bonnaroo. Along with Jukebox The Ghost, these are the two bands I really wish I would have seen. I’ve been listening to Youth since it dropped and have been absolutely hooked.
Oh what a show it was last week at Vinyl inside the Hard Rock Hotel. Having seen Robert Randolph perform numerous times, I knew what I was getting into but this show was by far the best I’ve been too, it was flat out awesome. What can I say except I’m a huge fan of Grouplove and I have been for some time. Having had the chance to see them perform live several times, I’m excited to see them next week out here in Las Vegas and to make it even more special, I had the opportunity to chat with Christian Zucconi to preview the concert in the new issue of Vegas SEVEN. For the third straight week, New Music Tuesday is absolutely amazing with a handful of BIG TIME releases. We’re talking Mumford & Sons – Babel, Lupe Fiasco – Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, No Doubt – Push and Shove, Ozomatli – OzoKidz, Talib Kweli – Prisoner of Conscious, Preservation Hall Jazz Band – St. Peter and 57th, Dragonette – Bodyparts, Green Day – Uno!, Anita Baker – Only Forever, The Soft Pack – Strapped, deadmau5 – >album goes here< and a whole bunch more.
As for my two top picks of the week, tough call yet really simple:
Mumford & Sons – Babel
Mumford & Sons fresh off their performance on Saturday Night Live drop one of the most anticipated albums of the year and I promise you won’t be disappointed. Unlike their incredible debut Sigh No More, Babel is more upbeat from the start and really captures more of the live M&S experience. Give a few spins through the record and you’ll be hooked. If you’ve seen the fellas live, chances are you’ve heard what early on I have to say my favorite tracks on the disc are “Hopeless Wanderer” and “Below Your Feet” – oddly enough track 11 on both discs are my favorite (“Dust Bowl Dance” on Sigh No More). Enjoy!
Lupe Fiasco – Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1
If you know me, you know I’m a gigantic Lupe Fiasco fan so it’s no surprise to see his new disc here as one of my top picks. I’m really looking forward to listening to the “follow-up” to his debut album six years and two albums later, as I’ve only heard a few tracks including “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” which samples Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth’s “TROY” and from what I’ve read, it’s very politically and culturally charged. He speaks load and clear enough that his message is heard and people respond.
Wow, Wow, Wow, just heard two sweet new remixes of GROUPLOVE’s “Itching On A Photograph” by Wolf Gang and The Very Best. I loved the song before but wow, these remixes are dope. I’d love to say you can listen and download below but I got it from their mailing list this afternoon so I’d suggest visiting www.grouplovemusic.com, sign up for their updates and perhaps you can get your hands on these remixes too.
