13 Great Musical Moments in @CameronCrowe Movies via Paste Magazine

4 May

Leave it to Paste Magazine to come up with something like this and quite frankly, it’s awesome.  I’m sure everyone can figure out before reading what movie has the most included in this list and honestly you can’t argue that, especially number one (number two is pretty damn good too).  Follow THIS link to read the full piece.

NY Magazine: Michael Rapaport on All the Drama Surrounding His A Tribe Called Quest Documentary

29 Apr

Yesterday I came across across a really great Q&A interview online from New York Magazine with Michael Rapaport in regards to his documentary on A Tribe Called Quest. I remember when I first heard about this documentary I was so excited and then I quickly learned of all the drama and bickering going back and forth right around Sundance.  Below is an excerpt from the interview which took place during the Tribeca Film Festival and click HERE to read the whole thing.

(via New York Magazine)

You came into this as a fan. Are you less of a fan?
I love the group; I still love the music; I still get off on the music. I will not be the director of A Tribe Called Quest documentary, part two. This conflict has definitely changed my perception of them as individuals, but the music is the music.

Do they have control over the soundtrack?
Yeah, the soundtrack is their domain. They have control over it. And at this point, up until now, they have chosen not to do anything with the soundtrack.

And what was the question that you wanted to answer by doing the movie?
The question that I wanted to answer by doing the movie was, “Will A Tribe Called Quest make more music?” And I think we got our answer because there’s no soundtrack. But it’s not too late yet.

Because you haven’t released the movie yet.
We’ve got release in July, and what better way to go off into the sunset, to make one original song for your documentary? And to see A Tribe Called Quest at the fucking Oscars performing a brand-new song — that would be crazy for hip-hop. They could write the song for me. I’ll perform the shit myself. If they write the song, I’ll do it. I’ll hire look-alikes to do it.

Check out this short video of Chef Chris Cosentino who recently created a menu based on Ben Harper’s song “Number With No Name.”  Wicked cool stuff.

Video: Zac Brown & James Taylor – “Colder Weather”

5 Apr

I know I’m late on this but since I didn’t watch the ACM Awards I just got around to watching the Zac Brown/James Taylor performance of “Colder Weather” into “Sweet Baby James.” Great duet and definitely worth watching if you haven’t caught it yet either.

Video: Arcade Fire Play Surprise Show in Haiti

31 Mar

The audio is not the greatest but check out the videos below (via Esquire and Pitchfork).  Earlier this week Arcade Fire performed an impromptu 45-minute set at the Hotel Oloffson in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.  During the set they covered Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Who’ll Stop the Rain,” “The Tide Is High” by the Paragons (made famous by Blondie), the Rolling Stones’ “The Last Time,” and Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

Aloe Blacc Alternate Video For “I Need A Dollar”

23 Mar

Props to Las Vegas CityLife A&E Editor Mike Prevatt and his blog item yesterday on Aloe Blacc found here.  Earlier this year Mr. Blacc spent four nights performing at Book & Stage over at the brand new Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and during his time in the desert he reshot the video for “I Need A Dollar.”  Love seeing his Book & Stage performances made it into the video and if you haven’t had a chance to see Mr. Blacc perform live please make sure it’s on your list of artists to see, he’s that good.

(apologies but Sony Music blocks the video from playing on the site so just click the link in the screen below)

Must See Video: Kenny Rogers ft. The Roots – “The Gambler”

16 Mar

This is by far one of the coolest music performances ever; last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Kenny Rogers performed “The Gambler” with The Roots! Click HERE to watch this amazing performance.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Jimmy Fallon is the best evening talk show around. With The Roots as his house band, the most magical music performances occur.

REVISITED: Ryan Shaw – 2 24 11 – Las Vegas – Plus Video Covering Bob Marley

25 Feb

Ryan Shaw was in one word last night, amazing.  What a performance he gave over his two sets in Las Vegas on Thursday night.  If you are in Sin City this weekend, no excuse to not go and see at least one set over the next two nights.  And if you’re worried you won’t know any of his music, have no fear as Ryan’s performance last night included a whole bunch of great covers including: Michael Jackson – “Man In The Mirror,” Janis Joplin – “Piece of My Heart,”   Bob Marley – “Redemption Song,” Stevie Wonder – “Superstition,” and Beatles – “Let It Be.”

The video is not great quality and the security guy kept getting in the way (I think he just wanted some face time) but give a listen to hear Ryan performing “Redemption Song.” Also apologies as I missed the first minute of the song.  Will try to get some better video this weekend.
