24 JanCheck this out. Bruce Springsteen and Dropkick Murphys team up to record 1913 song “Peg O’ My Heart” which will be featured on the DM album Going Out In Style set for release on February 28. I for one can’t wait to hear this.

Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest
21 JanIf you are at or heading to Sundance this weekend you are a lucky individual as Michael Rapaport (yes the actor) premieres his documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest. Collectively one of the greatest hip-hop groups of all time who shaped the game for many of today’s most loved and admired stars, I’m very interested to see this documentary about Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi and the footage Rapaport has used to tell the story.
And check out this little bit on the documentary on MTV.com.
OMG Coachella 2011 Line-up
18 JanOk so now the planning can officially begin getting underway as the 2011 Coachella line-up has been announced. I am so stoked about this line-up and definitely finding my way to Indio this spring.
At first glance, Day One is top priority. As much as a fan I am of Kings of Leon, The Black Keys, Lauren Hill, Cut Copy, Brandon Flowers and all the other top billing acts, I’m more jacked about Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, Here We Go Magic, Klaxons, !!!, The Drums, Afrojack, Ozomatli, The Morning Benders and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti to name a few.
Day Two is going to be a dance party bonanza with Steve Angello, Empire of the Sun, Paul van Dyk, Fedde Le Grand, Laidback Luke, Joachim Garraud, Chuckie and more plus, Raphael Saadiq, Two Door Cinema Club, Foals, the Kills, Mariachi El Bronx plus Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons and so much more!
Day Three has a ton more great artists but I am not as high on it as Days 1 & 2. The return of the Strokes, The National, Duran Duran, Duck Sauce, Eliza Doolittle, Tinie Tempah, and Ben Harper’s Fistful of Mercy should all be insane performances.
All I can say is WOW and while some may start chiming in saying this isn’t the best Coachella line-up in the 12 years I would argue that when we recap the festival later this spring it will go down in the record books as featuring one of the finest collections of music we have ever seen over the course of three days.
Three-day weekend passes, along with camping passes for Coachella go on sale Friday, Jan. 21 at 10:00 AM (PT) through Ticketmaster.com, by phone at (800) 745-3000 and at http://www.coachella.com. You Know “Black & Yellow,” What About “Pink & Purple”
12 JanI got a good laugh watching this video, a remake of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” called “Pink and Purple” by 9 or 10 year old Lyrikkal.
Revisited: Playing That Mogul Music
10 JanI was going through some old stacks of papers, magazines and came across an article I kept from 2007 in The New York Times about DJ managers. I was fascinated with this piece (thus why I kept it) and reread it last night still amazed at how the business side of DJs has evolved and taken off over the course of the past decade let alone in the four years since this article was written. It’s an easy read and well worth the five minutes of your time. Fascinating stuff and props to writer Lola Ogunnaike on a great story.
“Not long ago, the life of the average New York D.J. involved booking their own dates, toting crates of vinyl and, if all went well, taking home enough to chip away at the rent. These days top D.J.’s can command $50,000 or more a party and are just as likely to wind up in the gossip columns as are the young actresses they call their friends — while working parties for Fortune 500 companies or for wealthy hosts halfway across the world.”

Best Coast Does Vegas x4
5 JanI for one am excited as tonight marks the beginning of a four-night run over at Book & Stage inside the Cosmopolitan for Best Coast. The California trio which released one of top albums of 2010, Crazy For You should put on quite the performance and definitely one you need to catch. Show times are slated for 10 – 11 p.m. and midnight – 1 a.m. and admission is FREE!
Awesome Video of DJ Ross One with Jay-Z & Kanye West
3 JanCheck out this video from them too productions at the opening of Marquee Nightclub at Cosmopolitan Las Vegas on NYE; looks like it was quite the evening. While Erick Morillo was doing his thing in the main room, DJ Ross One was dropping the beats for Jay-Z, Kanye, Rihanna & Co. downstairs in the Boombox Room.
And please do yourself a favor, if you’re not familiar with Ross One you best change that immediately.
Roc Boys……L’Chaim!
One more thing, Marquee LV is over 60,000 sq. ft. of nightclub you want to party at, trust me on this.
