Now Playing: BRAND NEW Lupe Fiasco – “Around My Way [Freedom Ain’t Free]”

21 May

Well here we go! Who’s ready for Food & Liquor II?  Lupe Fiasco JUST dropped the first single off his new album which drops September 25, “Around My Way [Freedom Ain’t Free]” with a dope sampling of Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s “They Reminisce Over You.”

Listen a few times, try to get the lyrics down, there is a lot to take in. I’m still dissecting it after a handful of spins already.

Now Playing: Coldplay vs. Wolfgang Gartner – “Every Tear Drop is a Redline” (Gregory Klosman)

14 May

Not only is Wolfgang Gartner’s latest track “Redline” a smash hit but Gregory Klosman has one up-ed him by taking the track and remixing it with Coldplay’s “Every Tear Drop is A Waterfall.”  Give a listen and you’ll know what I’m talking about. This track is only a handful of days old so get after it.  FIRE!!!

New Music: Donavon Frankenreiter – “Start Livin'”

5 May

I guess my Saturday is really starting to look up. One of my favorite artists, Donavon Frankenreiter just dropped a video (a little Soul Train tribute) for his new song, “Start Livin'” so yeah, let’s start livin and celebrate tonight!! His new album which bares the same name will be released May 29. What a way to usher in summer.

New Music: Viceroy & WhiteNoize – “Only Takes”

3 May

It’s been a minute since I have put some dance music up on the blog so why not get back at it today. Stumbled upon this track and I think I may have found the lead track for the May playlist.

Great ready for your new spring/summer jam courtesy of Viceroy & WhiteNoize with “Only Takes.”

If you haven’t had the chance to listen to the San Francisco based Viceroy, now’s your chance and grab yourself his Sunburn EP which dropped late in 2011.  His feel good vibe and perfect tunes for the season will be just what you need to help get you through the work week dreaming of the weekend.

And if you really want to be thrown a curveball, give a listen to Viceroy’s “Going Back To Cali” remix. Yah mon!

Now Playing: Baywood – “I Can Breathe Again”

2 May

This week I’ve been really getting into this band, Baywood. Comprised of Joe Ginsberg and Jarrad Kritzstein, the Cali duo bring a refreshing indie-folk sound that is definitely music you need to be listening to. Give a listen below to “I Can Breathe Again” and pick up Seasons.

New Music: Zach Heckendorf – “All The Right Places”

25 Apr

Let’s chalk singer-songwriter Zach Heckendorf as a name to keep an eye on.  He has played to thousands at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater and has shared stages with John Butler Trio, Rodrigo y Gabriella, Brandi Carlile, Guster, Mat Kearney, Barenaked Ladies, and is slated to open for Michael Franti this summer! Plus his record, The Cool Down, he recorded with Brett Dennen.  Not too shabby for a 19-year old.

The Black Keys & John Fogerty Perform “The Weight” In Honor Of Levon Helm

23 Apr

How rad is this, to honor the late, great Levon Helm, The Black Keys welcomed John Fogerty to the stage during their Coachella Weekend 2 set to perform The Band’s “The Weight.”

In music we trust!!

Music Monday: Emeli Sandé

23 Apr

It is Music Monday and what a day it is going to be.  If you are not familiar with Emeli Sandé consider this your notice.  The Scottish singer-songwriter has one amazing voice and should become a household name in the States pronto.  Besides rising to acclaim in the UK as a solo artist, Sandé has written songs for the likes of Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, Tinie Tempah and is featured on Wiley’s “Never Be Your Woman.”

Her album, Our Version Of Events is slated for US release on June 5 but if you pop over to the UK iTunes site you should be able to get your hands on the album!

She’s got shows in NYC (April 24, June 4) and Chicago (May 30) before supporting Coldplay on their Summer Tour.  Get your tickets and don’t miss the chance to see this talent!

Here’s “Next To Me” a song that I’m guessing will be a heatseeker on the Billboard charts very soon.

#MusicMonday: Sleeper Agent – “Get Burned”

16 Apr

Good morning……music fans!  Music Monday and let’s get the week started off with a little Sleeper Agent.  If you aren’t familiar with these kids from Kentucky, you need to be.  They released their debut album, Celabrasion, last fall and are rising fast.  They just played Coachella last weekend, are making an appearance at the Hangout Music Festival next month, and are on a little tour right now with Ben Kweller.  So if you haven’t, give a listen to their peppy, rock sound and be on the lookout for this band in a city near you.
