Willie Nelson Sings His Way Out Of Jail Time

29 Mar

Must be nice for Willie Nelson, click HERE to read the item from Max Blau of PASTE.com about Texas prosecutor Kip Bramblett agreeing to make his punishment a $100 fine and one song sung in the courtroom instead of up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Except from PASTE.com

“Willie Nelson has managed to elude jail time and a fine on the condition that he sings “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain” to the Texan court that heard his case. Last November, the heralded country songwriter had been charged for possessing marijuana after six ounces were found in a search of his tour bus. The amount was lessened to three ounces after the search, downgrading the charge to a misdemeanor that could have netted Nelson up to a $2,000 fine and 180 days in jail.” Click HERE to read the rest of the entry.

New Music: Jamestown Revival – The Knives & Pipes EP

28 Feb

Jamestown Revival, heard of this band before?  If not you better get on top of their EP, The Knives & Pipes.  The laidback duo of Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance originally hail from Magnolia, Texas and are currently one of 16 bands vying for the cover of Rolling Stone.  In what’s a really sweet contest featuring many great up-and-coming bands, give a listen to Jamestown Revival and cast your vote for the guys (final four bands will rock out at Bonnaroo in a Battle of the Bands this June).  Even better, vote for Jamestown Revival, click the Facebook ‘Like’ icon and then shoot at email to ivoted@jamestownrevival.com and you can score a free copy of their EP.

Wondering what their sound is like?  Personally I think it’s a blend of a handful of genres including their country roots, bluegrass, pop, rock and rockabilly, soul and they pull it off so elegantly.  They have a more mellow, chillaxing approach which makes listening to them that much more enjoyable.  I know after one listen I was hooked and have found myself pushing repeat again and again the past week.

REVISITED: Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears | 1 26 11 | Las Vegas

27 Jan

Last night was just as I expected, a funky good time with Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears. Over the course of three hours and two sets, the Austin, TX masters of music ran through their catalog of songs and let us in on a bunch of new tracks set for release on Scandalous as well as a couple covers.  Excited I am for both the new LP and to head on back to Book & Stage inside the Cosmopolitan this evening for Round II.

If it is any indication what you are in for the next three nights, to me this was really the first band to grace Book & Stage and treat it like a two set show with their song selection and demeanor.

See you tonight!

TONIGHT: Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears – Las Vegas Best Be Ready

26 Jan

Today is officially one of the best days in 2011 at least for me as Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears descend on Las Vegas to begin a four-night residency at Book & Stage at Cosmopolitan.  I know I practically live there but you can’t blame me as they are bringing in some amazing groups to perform and let’s just say if you miss out on these Black Joe Lewis performances you are only hurting yourself.

Belting out blues, soul, funk and rock, Black Joe Lewis has the potential to be our modern day James Brown. I know that is a bold statement but come check out the shows and you’ll have to agree.  Having had the pleasure of seeing the group perform in a room of 200 and an arena of 14,000, these guys bring it each and every time and can get a crowd dancing and feeling the groove in no time.

On the verge of releasing their new album Scandalous on March 15, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears will have an arsenal of  sweet music to treat us to for the next four nights.

To get you in the right state of mind, check out one of my favorite tracks, “Sugarfoot” off their album Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is and see you at the Book & Stage.
