Countdown to Life is Beautiful: Alt-J

22 Sep

The home stretch towards the second Life is Beautiful festival in Downtown Las Vegas, October 24-26. In anticipation, at DoYouHearTheMusic.com I’ll be running down an artist or two on the lineup! If you haven’t gotten your tickets, do so at www.lifeisbeautiful.com and if you have, awesome and I can’t wait to see you!

Welcome back, Alt-JThis Is All Yours, the sophomore release from the UK trio drops on September 23 and just in time for Life is Beautiful!  Over the past couple of months the band has been quick to push out singles, “Hunger of the Pine,” “Left Hand Free” and “Every Other Freckle” and all it has done is make me even more excited for this release.  Plus the guys are finally going to play a real show in Vegas (they have played once, about 4 years ago opening for Grouplove, way before they were a household name).  Hope you can make it out to see these guys put on a heck of a show on Saturday, October 25.  Set time and stage information coming soon!

New Music: Alt-J – “Left Hand Free”

7 Jul

I am an Alt-J fan, have been since I first heard them and will continue to be. I’m stoked to have them on the 2014 Life is Beautiful lineup and can’t wait for their performance. And even though they’ve called their new single “Left Hand Free” the “least Alt-J song ever,” I still dig it and don’t mind the departure from “their sound” and I for one think it’s going to open them up to a whole lot of new fans. Many are already saying it’s very Black Keys-esque and perhaps it is but again, I don’t mind. It’s a catchy tune, and to me it spans a several genres of music. If anything it takes it back to way before the Black Keys. Plus Joe Newman’s distinct voice is still present so how about we embrace it before rushing to judgement about the new album (it’s only one song), “This Is All Yours” which is due out on September 23.
