Revisted: (Photos) Rival Sons and Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown – 2.23.13 Las Vegas

24 Feb

Last night was one of those nights of live music you wish you could experience on a nightly basis. If you happened to be one of the roughly 500 people inside Vinyl at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, you were treated to an evening of real rock and roll. Beware of Darkness, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, great to see these two perform again and wow some new fans. Rival Sons, seriously brought it last night, 10 minutes shy of two straight hours. A tip of the hat gentlemen on a great show! My review of Rival Sons will be in the next issue of Vegas SEVEN but until then, check out these photos from my friend, Erik Kabik.

Revisited: My Review of Gregg Allman in Vegas SEVEN

18 Jan

The Allman Brothers Band, one of the bands that made me love music the way I do (also the band that sings my favorite song of all time).  Last week it was Gregg Allman who descended upon Las Vegas and setup shop at Pearl at Palms for a night.  I can honestly say that the show was fantastic and a tip of the hat to Allman for delivering a heck of a performance for everyone in attendance.  Check out my review in the new issue of Vegas SEVEN.

My Review of The Black Keys in Vegas SEVEN

13 Jan

Just before 2012 ended I had the opportunity to see The Black Keys in concert, yet again. This time at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel on New Year’s Eve weekend. Check out my review of night one which ran in the most recent issue of Vegas SEVEN.

For the record, I’ll never pass on a chance to see The Black Keys in concert.  Each show may be very similar in comparison but seeing them in front of 80,000 screaming fans or 400, they sound just as good and you never leave disappointed.

Anyone have thoughts on 12.12.12. The Concert for Sandy Relief?  It truly was a magical evening of rock royalty and one that was viewed by two billion people!  So many great and memorable performances including this one of Chris Martin and Michael Stipe.

My Interview with Christian Zucconi of GROUPLOVE in Vegas SEVEN

27 Sep

What can I say except I’m a huge fan of Grouplove and I have been for some time.  Having had the chance to see them perform live several times, I’m excited to see them next week out here in Las Vegas and to make it even more special, I had the opportunity to chat with Christian Zucconi to preview the concert in the new issue of Vegas SEVEN.  The issue dropped today and you can click HERE or see below.

Hope to see everyone at the show, it’s going to be a great one and Christian promised a jump in the pool following the last song!

My inerview with Jimmy Cliff as it appears in Vegas SEVEN (6 14 12 Issue)

14 Jun

Next week Jimmy Cliff will take the stage and perform poolside at the Hard Rock Hotel here in Las Vegas. A few weeks ago I had the honor of speaking to him for a feature in Vegas SEVEN to preview the show. Before you read the below I have to tell you, not only is Jimmy Cliff an amazing musician but personally I believe he is an even better human being. He has such a beautiful outlook on life and is someone who we can all learn something from. Without further adieu, my interview with Jimmy Cliff. Hope to see everyone out at the pool next week.

Revisited: My Last Week in Live Music – Santana, Kelley James, Ozomatli (Video)

7 May

Last week was a whirlwind of a music one for me.  It started last Wednesday with the opportunity to see Carlos Santana’s new residency at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. Not only is Santana a living legend that I encourage everyone to see, his band is truly amazing.  The show was about two hours and spanned his whole career of hits.  With a brand new sound system in place, HoB was rocking and the perfect venue to capture the iconic guitar work of Santana.

On Friday it was off to a semi-private show with the mighty talented, Kelley James.  If you are not familiar with Kelley’s sound/style, you’re sorely missing out.  In addition to a bunch of his own songs, he busted out some Sublime and Neil Diamond.  Plus he is one of the most gifted freestyle artists which added to the fun and entertaining evening.

For Cinco de Mayo it was time for Ozomatli.  I can’t even remember how many times I’ve seen these guys live and the shows are always a blast.  This time the venue was Body English inside the Hard Rock Hotel and not only do I love and miss the former nightclub but it served as practically a private concert venue.  Intimate and in close quarters with the fiesta faithful, it was one wild dance party that I wish everyone could have experienced.  Check the video below of a little Latin cover of Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough.”

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 31 Days – Artist of the Day: The Kooks

6 May

Let me start out by saying if you haven’t had the chance to see The Kooks, make sure they are on your must see list.  And if you are wondering, “who are The Kooks?” I’ll bet you know at least three of their songs.  The English quartet are one of those bands that when you hear a song like “Naïve” or “Shine On” you’ll be “oh yeah, I love this song – this is The Kooks?!”  I caught their show at the House of Blues in Las Vegas earlier this year and it was a fun, peppy show and I expect nothing less at Bonnaroo next month.

Revisited: My review of Florence + The Machine in Vegas SEVEN (4 26 12 Issue)

29 Apr

A week ago I had the chance to see Florence + The Machine at the BLVD Pool at The Cosmopolitan. This was the second time I have seen Florence and I have to say this time was a whole lot better. See below for my review which appears in the April 26 issue of Vegas SEVEN or click here for a link to the story online.

Revisited: JUSTICE | 4 19 12 | Las Vegas | (Photos)

20 Apr

Back in 2008 I had the chance to see JUSTICE perform at House of Blues in Las Vegas and I was just too exhausted to go (living in Las Vegas and the line of work I was in can do that to you) so I gave up my ticket .  Not a day went by I didn’t kick myself for missing that show.  Finally last night I got the opportunity to redeem myself as the duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay took the stage in front of a amped crowd at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.  I’ve often said I love concerts out at the BLVD Pool because one, it’s outdoors and two, the there is something about being surrounded by the neon glow of The Strip that just makes these shows better.

As for the show itself, AWESOME.  I know, I know it’s an experience and the lighting rig was impressive (LED piano was sweet, LED orbs adorning the backdrop were intense) but I really just wanted to hear them live.  For me the highlight was “On’n”On,” my favorite track off Audio, Video, Disco which along with “We Are Your Friends” was teased before bringing both back during the encore.   Plus when they played “D.A.N.C.E.” I don’t think you could find one person standing still which brings me to the wide eyed crowd; wow, it was an intense group right in front of the stage!

At the end of the day I can count on one hand the electronic acts I would go out of my way to see and sure enough, JUSTICE is right there.  See you in August at Lollapalooza!
