It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Donavon Frankenreiter and his music so I just had to share this. Donavon recently performed in the NYC subway station on Lexington/63rd as part of Subway Sessions. I had not heard of Subway Sessions before this and quite frankly think it’s wicked cool; plus great artists like Matt Costa and Damian Kulash of OK Go have also performed as part of the initiative. More than anything, mad props to Thomas McAulay, Sam Spar, and Matt Pelosi for creating Subway Sessions and finding yet a way to share music with the people. To me music is the one thing that can always put me in a good mood no matter what and this is just another way to share the good vibes all around.
Viva Las Vegas – A Plethora Of Live Music This Week
6 DecIt’s only Monday and I’m really excited about the music week ahead in Las Vegas. One of my favorite bands of all time, The Black Crowes, is returning to Las Vegas on Friday evening to play The Joint. I’ve seen the fellas more than a handful of times live and this one is going to be bittersweet as it’s also part of their farewell tour. More than anything I’m thrilled about going to a real rock and roll concert filled with two sets of damn good music. This is also a show that I know I’ll be getting there for the opening act as Truth & Salvage Co. will be gracing the stage and they are definitely a band you want to be listening to.
While The Black Crowes are my top music priority for the week in Las Vegas, Passion Pit plays the House of Blues, Temper Trap invades the Hard Rock Café on The Strip and Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds return to Planet Hollywood for two nights of acoustic euphoria. The only damper on the insane week of live music is scheduling and knowing shows overlap and I won’t get to all of them.
Here’s one of my favorite Crowes songs. Going to miss seeing these guys live.
NEW: G. Love – Fixin’ to Die
18 NovI’m a huge G. Love fan and if you are too this video below will definitely get you amped up for his new album, Fixin’ to Die due out February 22, 2011. Adding to the spectacular for this blues heavy disc, The Avett Brothers are producing it!
And for all my Denver peeps, make sure you grab Dec. 30 and 31 tickets to see G. Love and Widespread Panic! Sounds like one heck of a way to ring in the New Year.
NEW Girl Talk – All Day
17 NovFirst time I ever heard about Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk I was fascinated how he was a biomedical engineer by day and DJ by night; how he would frequently hop on a plane to London after work on Friday and be back in the office Monday morning without anyone knowing that he was moonlighting as a DJ. Well of course he blew up as a DJ and has released four very memorable mixes including Night Ripper and Feed The Animals. On Monday, he dropped his fifth, All Day which in typical Girl Talk fashion is one heck of a mash-up/sample album. You can grab yourself a copy of it HERE. Also you have to check out the Wikipedia page for All Day which breaks down the staggering 372 samples used to create the record.
Daft Punk – TRON – “Derezzed”
9 NovI’m like a lot people, stoked for the Daft Punk TRON: LEGACY soundtrack to come out on December 7. Just seeing the quick clip featuring the track “Derezzed” has me wanting more NOW. December 7 can’t come soon enough.
And check this out for a little more of a preview courtesy of BBC Radio 1.
Matt White – “Love” and the McRib?!
5 NovI got a good laugh this morning when I heard Matt White’s “Love” on the TV and turned to see it was a McDonald’s commercial for the McRib. Even more so, learned that this commercial first ran in 2008! I guess if it aint broke, don’t fix it and given that the McRib comes and goes, why not do the same with the commercial. I wonder how much in royalty he gets for this one. Either way, it’s a pretty creative spot. Check it out.
