New Music (well sort of): The Dirty Heads

28 Aug

This is like new old music since their debut album came on in 2008 but The Dirty Heads are a group everyone should be listening to.  Any Point In A Storm is a great disc to listen to from beginning to end, beaming of roots, rock, reggae, hip-hop and ska.  Earlier this summer the music video for “Lay Me Down” ft. Rome from Sublime with Rome was released and is the perfect song to ride out the rest of summer and chill to.

Perhaps the most exciting news on The Dirty Heads may be that O.A.R. tapped them as one of the opening acts on their 2010 fall tour.  Click here for their upcoming tour dates.

If you’re a fan of O.A.R., Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, Jack Johnson, Sublime, 311, Fishbone, The Expendables and G. Love there’s nothing else to say except grab the CD and crank up the speakers.

New Music: The Gaslight Anthem – American Slang

27 Aug

I know the album came out at the beginning of summer but The Gaslight Anthem’s American Slang is one that any fan of rock and roll should have.  The Jersey rockers come out blazing on their third LP and definitely bring a more solid, crisp production throughout.  The title track gets the blood flowing followed by “Stay Lucky” and “Bring It On” which are two songs that grab a hold of you.  “The Diamond Church Street Choir” brings soul to the album while “The Spirit of Jazz” has anthem written all over it.

Best known for their hit “The ‘59 Sound” the guys must have had added motivation in recording this record having already had the opportunity to perform with their idol Bruce Springsteen in the summer of 2009.  With The Boss in their corner, I only wonder what lies ahead for The Gaslight Anthem.

New Music: The Swiss

26 Aug

I don’t know if it’s just me but there seems to be a TON on great music coming from Australia these days.  The latest on my constant rotation of Aussie beats is The Swiss, a self-described boutique disco group.  The Swiss released an EP titled Bubble Bath earlier this year and it is just killer.  Bringing the noise with synthesized strings, laser infused beats and solid, crisp drums, The Swiss are on the verge of stardom in the states.  If you’re a fan of fellow Australian act Empire of the Sun, be sure to give a listen to these guys.  Click here to check out some tracks on their MySpace page.

New Music: Levi’s Pioneer Sessions

25 Aug

Throughout the summer Levi’s has been rolling out a “Pioneer Sessions” campaign and releasing classic tracks recorded by some of today’s most well regarded and hottest artists.  A few of the tracks that really standout to me are: Raphael Saadiq’s cover of The Spinners’ “It’s A Shame,” Passion Pit’s cover of the Smashing Pumpkin’s “Tonight, Tonight,” and John Legend & The Roots’ rendition of Ernie Hines’ “Our Generation.”

Check out www.levispioneersessions.com to download the whole series which also includes tracks by Ryan Bingham, The Dirty Projectors, The Swell Season, She & Him, Nas, Colbie Caillat, The Shins, Jason Mraz, The Kills and Bomba Estereo.

New Music: Half Empty

12 Aug

Big ups and congrats to my friend and former colleague Adam Chen and his new band, Half Empty repping the D.C. and Baltimore area.  Adam and two buddies have been working away on their debut album which you can get a listen to some tracks on their MySpace page here.  If you like garage rock, you’ll definitely dig what these guys are doing.

Half Empty has a show coming up on August 21 in Baltimore at The Brass Monkey in Fells Point.  Show time is slated for 10 p.m. so if you’re in the area, head on over and rock out with the boys and get your live music on. I’m also told that Fells Point is the drinking capital of Maryland so even more a reason to take a trip over and see Half Empty.

Cheers Adam and congrats on the new endeavor.

Wolfgang Gartner TONIGHT

12 Aug

If you are in Las Vegas I highly suggest you make sure your plans include heading over to Vanity Nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel tonight to listen to Wolfgang Gartner. One of the most talented DJs in the game is performing during Godskitchen and it will be a DJ set you won’t want to miss.

Check out his latest track, “Conscindo,” via SoundCloud Mark Knight & Wolfgang Gartner – Conscindo

Don’t say I didn’t tell you so but he is going to be a household name in the states very soon just like Kaskade and Deadmau5 are now. Speaking of Deamau5, Gartner has collaborated on a track with him that should be out very soon!

I Like It

11 Aug

I’ve got to admit it; I like an Enrique Iglesias song. Yep there I said it. “I Like It” is a fun club/pool party track and I’m really digging Chuckie’s remix of the song.

Maybe all the time in the sun hanging by the pool has gone to my head but take a listen and judge for yourself.

Yeasayer – Ambling Alp

5 Aug

I know this song has been out for a while now but I’m really digging it these days and can’t seem to get enough of, “Ambling Alp” by Yeasayer off their album Odd Blood.

Something really cool they are doing, visit www.amblingalp.com and download the single for FREE.

Enjoy some good music and if you’re not a fan of Yeasayer, it’s never too late to become one!
