Lupe Fiasco – I’m Beamin’ – All City Chess Club Remix

14 Oct

Those who know me are well aware of my fascination with Lupe Fiasco and what can I say, I think the dude is one heck of a musician.  Every time I have seen him in concert (three times) it has been a great performance that has you wanting more.  Well as we await the drop of Lasers, his third album (March 11, 2011 – ugh, thanks Atlantic Records) there is new life as his self released single “I’m Beamin” was remixed by his “new” crew, All City Chess Club.  All City Chess Club you ask? How does this sound: Lupe, Pharrell Williams, B.o.B., The Cool Kids, Asher Roth, Wale, Diggy (as in Rev. Run’s son), J.Cole, Charles Hamilton and Blu.  Take a listen below.

Brandon Flowers – “Only The Young” Music Video

7 Oct

I am seriously becoming a huge fan of Brandon Flowers the solo artist and keep being amazed at what he’s doing.  His latest music video, “Only the Young” is sensational and was filmed in the theatre and with the cast of Le Reve, the show at Wynn.  I think by now everyone knows Flowers’ affection with his hometown(s) of Las Vegas/Henderson but this is just tremendous and a beautiful video.  Take four minutes and watch for yourself.

If you don’t have it already, make sure to pick up his solo effort, Flamingo.

New Music: Graffiti6 – Colours

5 Oct

I came across the band Graffiti6 and was instantly hooked and that was before I discovered who the masterminds behind the kicking music are.  The British pop/rock duo of producer/DJ Tommy D (Jay-Z, Kanye West, Joss Stone, Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue and wait for it…..Right Said Fred “I’m Too Sexy”) and singer/songwriter Jamie Scott put together an album that was a pleasant surprise and delivers a great soundtrack for the workday, a road trip and just good old hanging around the house.  Check out the single “Stare Into The Sun” from the album Colours below and if you like it, I promise you’ll dig the rest of their music!

New Music: Hungry Kids of Hungary

4 Oct

Yet another Australian band on my musical radar, Hungry Kids of Hungary.  The Brisbane quartette just released their debut album, Escapades and I think we can expect big things from these guys as they bring their sound to the States.  Their music sounds as if they are taking us back to the 60s with harmonic melodies and an indie-pop sound that keeps you intrigued and craving more.

If you’re a fan of Vampire Weekend and OK Go, I think you’ll dig HKoH.  Check out the video below for “Wristwatch” and judge for yourself.

New Music: Mark Ronson & The Business Intl – Record Collection

1 Oct

I can’t believe I neglected this for a few days but everyone needs to stop what they are doing and listen to Mark Ronson & The Business Intl disc Record Collection.  To me, Ronson is one of the most gifted musical minds there is and this CD is another smashing success.  The Grammy Award winning artist/producer hits a home run with an album full of tracks featuring many household names including Q-Tip, D’Angelo, Boy George, Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes (Duran Duran), Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet), Nick Hodgson (Kaiser Chiefs), Ghostface Killah, Spank Rock, Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow), Theophilus London and more.

New Music: The Crookes – “Dreams of Another Day”

1 Oct

I know I know my affection with British music is over the moon but seriously some of the best new music is coming from across the pond.  My latest find, The Crookes from Sheffield.  It didn’t take long for me to be addicted to their EP Dreams of Another Day and really dig their folk, pop, rock style that blends genres of music from multiple decades to create their own righteous sound.   Formed in 2008, The Crookes took off in 2009 being touted by BBC Radio jockey Steve Lamacq as “favourite British band of the year” and in September 2010 the band released Dreams of Another Day. “Yes, Yes We Are Magicians” and “Backstreet Lovers” are the two biggest highlights for me on the disc and make sure to keep an eye on these guys as they could be Sheffield’s next music hit following the Arctic Monkeys.

New Music: Bruno Mars ft. Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley – “Liquor Store Blues”

21 Sep

It seems like Bruno Mars can do no wrong (well let’s leave out his arrest in Vegas last weekend).  But seriously every song he touches turns to gold.  The latest is “Liquor Store Blues” featuring Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and will be featured on his upcoming album Doo-Wops and Hooligans.  I’ve only listened to the track a few times but its Marley’s verses and the guitar rift beginning at 2:26 that get me.  Here’s to the next hit song for Mr. Mars.
