TONIGHT: Fitz & The Tantrums Live In Las Vegas @Cosmopolitan_LV

13 Jan

Tonight’s the night Las Vegas! Fitz & The Tantrums bring their Motown sounding soul to Book & Stage at The Cosmopolitan beginning a four night run at The Strip’s newest palatial resort.  If you haven’t had the chance to check out a show at Book & Stage this is definitely one you’ll want to be present for.  The LA based band led by Michael Fitzpatrick will have your feet hurting from dancing and once again, the show is FREE.  10 p.m. and midnight tonight through Sunday.

Oh and check out our friend Abby Tegnelia’s interview with Mr. Fitzpatrick himself in VEGAS Magazine HERE.

You Know “Black & Yellow,” What About “Pink & Purple”

12 Jan

I got a good laugh watching this video, a remake of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” called “Pink and Purple” by 9 or 10 year old Lyrikkal.

Britney Spears – “Hold It Against Me”

11 Jan

Brace yourself: At first listen I actually like Britney Spears’ new song “Hold It Against Me.” There, I said it and I know I may be kicking myself for writing it but the track is catchy and has serious club play written all over it. I actually shouldn’t be a bit surprised I like the track considering one of the producers is Dr. Luke. Seriously he is on one heck of a run and every track he touches turns to gold.

Selah Sue – Raggamuffin

10 Jan

I know this EP has been out for almost a year but as of late I’ve really been digging Selah Sue‘s Raggamuffin.  The Belgian songstress has an amazing voice and should have one heck of a career ahead of herself. Her reggae, soul is contagious; give a listen and see for yourself.

She also appears on Cee Lo Green’s international release of The Lady Killer on the track “Please.”

Revisited: Playing That Mogul Music

10 Jan

I was going through some old stacks of papers, magazines and came across an article I kept from 2007 in The New York Times about DJ managers.  I was fascinated with this piece (thus why I kept it) and reread it last night still amazed at how the business side of DJs has evolved and taken off over the course of the past decade let alone in the four years since this article was written.  It’s an easy read and well worth the five minutes of your time.  Fascinating stuff and props to writer Lola Ogunnaike on a great story.

“Not long ago, the life of the average New York D.J. involved booking their own dates, toting crates of vinyl and, if all went well, taking home enough to chip away at the rent. These days top D.J.’s can command $50,000 or more a party and are just as likely to wind up in the gossip columns as are the young actresses they call their friends — while working parties for Fortune 500 companies or for wealthy hosts halfway across the world.”

New Music: Tennis

7 Jan

The latest band of the week for me is Tennis.  I just can’t get enough of the husband and wife duo of Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore.  To me if Little Joy and Beach House had a baby it would sound something like this duo from Denver with their retro pop sound.  Birthed from their adventure of purchasing a boat and sailing the Atlantic, Tennis has garnered a lot of attention the past six months (well deserved too) and on January 18 their first full length disc, Cape Dory, drops. Check out a couple of their tunes and be on the look-out for Tennis in 2011.
