@MayerHawthorne Wants to Replace Nickelback in the Lions’ Halftime Show

9 Nov

Ha! This is awesome and I sure hope it happens.  Mayer Hawthorne campaigning to replace Nickelback as the Thanksgiving Day halftime performer during the annual Turkey Bowl in Detroit where he just so happens to be from (well Ann Arbor).  I mean how can you have a Canadian band play Thanksgiving in the United States?  If they were playing halftime of a CFL game during Thanksgiving in Canada, okay, totally fine.  Better question may be, who’s bright idea was it to book Nickelback for this in the first place?

Check out THIS article from PASTE Magazine with the campaign video from Mayer himself.

If you decide to get in the campaign spirit, tweet @MayerHawthrone and use the hash tag #MayerForDetroit.

New Music: The Belle Brigade

3 May

I have to thank Brett Dennen, for the introduction to this band, The Belle Brigade. From the first time I heard “Sweet Louise,” I was hooked.  Comprised of brother/sister duo Ethan and Barbara Gruska, their sibling relation allows for a seamless transition in vocals and harmonious sound on each track.  An easy, breezy tone throughout the self titled debut album also makes for a perfect soundtrack to listen to under the summer sun.  I believe Paste Magazine sums it up best in their review which you can read HERE.  Be on the lookout for the rise of The Belle Brigade.

Willie Nelson Sings His Way Out Of Jail Time

29 Mar

Must be nice for Willie Nelson, click HERE to read the item from Max Blau of PASTE.com about Texas prosecutor Kip Bramblett agreeing to make his punishment a $100 fine and one song sung in the courtroom instead of up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Except from PASTE.com

“Willie Nelson has managed to elude jail time and a fine on the condition that he sings “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain” to the Texan court that heard his case. Last November, the heralded country songwriter had been charged for possessing marijuana after six ounces were found in a search of his tour bus. The amount was lessened to three ounces after the search, downgrading the charge to a misdemeanor that could have netted Nelson up to a $2,000 fine and 180 days in jail.” Click HERE to read the rest of the entry.
