Ok, it’s not Monday but we’ll continue the Monday Happiness into this Tuesday. Here’s a little playlist to crank up as you work away the day. This one is all over the place and spans a bunch of different genres but I hope you enjoy!
Time To Go Back To College? New Music Courses At NYU and USC Thanks To Steven Van Zandt, Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre17 May
These days I wish I was back in college but not for the reasons you might be thinking. To be a student at NYU or USC is pretty special right now.
On the east coast, NYU with the assistance of Steven Van Zandt’s Rock and Roll Forever Foundation in partnership with the GRAMMY Museum are introducing Rock and Roll: An American Story (RRAAS), an interdisciplinary middle and high school curriculum that explores Rock and Roll from its roots in blues, country music, gospel, and R&B to its latest incarnations today.
Out west at USC, the university announced plans with Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre to develop an Arts Academy after a $70 million donation from the music heavyweights. The money will be used to create the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation will enroll 25 students beginning in 2014.
Check it out…..new music from Mayer Hawthorne “Her Favorite Song” featuring UK sensation, Jessie Ware. Give a listen and let me know what you think.
I’m missing the first day of BottleRock Napa Valley today but stoked to be heading up to Napa tomorrow morning with my brother to catch a couple days of the first year, four-day festival. A stacked lineup, plenty of great food and wine in addition to plenty of friends making the trek should make for a fun weekend.
Tomorrow it’s all about The Black Keys, The Shins, Alabama Shakes, Vintage Trouble, The Flaming Lips, Dirty Projectors, Andrew Bird, Matt Nathanson, Blues Traveler and more. Saturday is definitely a power packed day/night of music with Kings of Leon, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Iron & Wine, Jackson Browne, Jane’s Addiction, Donavon Frankenreiter, Allen Stone, Dwight Yoakam, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Sharon Van Etten and more! Sunday brings it with Zac Brown Band, Michael Franti, Grouplove, Cake, Mavis Staples, Train, The Wallflowers, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Brandi Carlile and more.
Hells yeah, came out on Record Store Day but how about this little collab from Manchester Orchestra and Grouplove – “Make It To Me.” Give a listen below.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to be interviewed on the UNLV student produced program Studio G about Life Is Beautiful and our Downtown Las Vegas Music Showcase tonight (May 1) at Insert Coin(s). You can watch the interview below but more importantly a big thank you to all the students in the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies. A truly incredible group of students make Studio G run and a lot of TV stars in the making. Keep up all the great work!
