Now Playing: David Guetta & Afrojack – “Pandemonium”

24 Jun

I think this should be the theme song for this weekend in Las Vegas. Going to be exactly that, pandemonium.

Now Playing: White Denim – “It’s Him”

22 Jun

Lately I’ve really been digging White Denim, the four-piece from Austin, Texas. Love their sound and can’t get enough of the new album D.

Summer Summer Summertime

21 Jun

Happy first day of summer and what better way than taking it back to DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince!

Countdown to Bonnaroo: It All Begins Today!

9 Jun

Ah the day myself and close to 100,000 of my closest friends have been waiting for, BONNAROO 2011.  En route to Tennessee and ready to grace the fields for the 10th anniversary festival celebration but don’t worry, I’m not leaving you empty handed.  Here’s a little June Playlist with a Bonnaroo inspiration.  Give a listen and enjoy!

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 1 Day – Artist of the Day: Buffalo Springfield

8 Jun

It’s finally here, Bonnaroo Eve!  As the Countdown has reached number one, there is no band that deserves this spot more than Buffalo Springfield.  I mean never in my lifetime could I have dreamed about the opportunity to see them live in concert.  Wish granted as living original members Richie Furay, Stephen Stills and Neil Young bring their reunion tour to Tennessee (with Rick Rosas and Joe Vitale as well).  I’ve seen Neil Young and Crazy Horse, CSN, CSNY and now this is going to be icing on the cake for a heck of a 10th anniversary celebration.  Hope everyone is as excited as I am.  See you on the farm!

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 2 Days – Artist of the Day: Widespread Panic

7 Jun

“An honest tune with a lingering lead has taken me this far;” those are the first lyrics I knew of Widespread Panic thanks to my brother and I haven’t looked back.  11 studio recordings, 8 live records and 25 years later, the rock band from Athens, Georgia are regarded as one of the most iconic jam bands of all time.  And as the final artist slated to rock Bonnaroo, it seems fitting the band that headlined the inaugural festival 10 years ago gets to close out this year with what is sure to be an epic performance.   If this is in fact the final tour as people are speculating, what a ride it has been.

Sunday 8:30 PM – 11:00 PM – What Stage

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 3 Days – Artist of the Day: Warren Haynes

6 Jun

Arguably one of the most talented musicians around, Warren Haynes is simply an ace in the hole; whether it be fronting Gov’t Mule, jamming with the Allman Brothers Band, pulling double duty with The Dead or riding solo (among too many more collaborations to list) you are in for a thrilling ride seeing him live.  Relentless touring and righteous jamming has made Haynes not only a commodity in the music industry but a legend among fans.  That sweet southern rock sound will be one of the Bonnaroo 10th Anniversary highlights.

Friday 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM – Which Stage

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 4 Days – Artist of the Day: String Cheese Incident

5 Jun

In what has become a rarity so to speak in recent years, getting to see a String Cheese Incident show is something to savor.  With each member having a side project, catching a show is no easy feat anymore and the fact that they are playing Bonnaroo next week is something very special that everyone attending should look forward to.  One of the bands on the original billing for the inaugural Bonnaroo, this late night set will be one of the top five shows to catch.  To this day, a three night run at the Backyard in Austin to see String Cheese Incident is one of the best and most memorable concert experiences I have had.

Saturday 12:45 AM – 3:00 AM – Which Stage

Countdown to Bonnaroo: 5 Days – Artist of the Day: Eminem

4 Jun

A five year hiatus didn’t do anything to diminish his reputation in the music game.  If anything it only made Eminem come back stronger to claim his stake as one of the all time elite in hip-hop. Fast forward three years, two new albums albums and now a total of 13 Grammy Awards to date and Slim Shady has an arsenal of material to drop at Bonnaroo.  As one of the headliners, expect the performance to be an intense 90 minutes. Perhaps a guest spot by Weezy while we’re at it?
