BottleRock Here I Come
9 MayI’m missing the first day of BottleRock Napa Valley today but stoked to be heading up to Napa tomorrow morning with my brother to catch a couple days of the first year, four-day festival. A stacked lineup, plenty of great food and wine in addition to plenty of friends making the trek should make for a fun weekend.
Tomorrow it’s all about The Black Keys, The Shins, Alabama Shakes, Vintage Trouble, The Flaming Lips, Dirty Projectors, Andrew Bird, Matt Nathanson, Blues Traveler and more. Having had the chance to see them perform live several times, I’m excited to see them next week out here in Las Vegas and to make it even more special, I had the opportunity to chat with Christian Zucconi to preview the concert in the new issue of Vegas SEVEN. 24 SepWow, Wow, Wow, just heard two sweet new remixes of GROUPLOVE’s “Itching On A Photograph” by Wolf Gang and The Very Best. I loved the song before but wow, these remixes are dope. My New Music: Youngblood Hawke
12 SepBig shout out to my buddy David for turning me on to this band a couple weeks ago. I seriously can’t wait for the rest of the world to discover this group. Expecting some big things after just a four-track EP.
Two words: Youngblood Hawke
Who? A five-piece from LA
What? The next great band you probably haven’t heard of but will be hearing a lot about in the future
Why you should listen? Because these five kids are incredibly talented and bring a fun, happy go lucky sound to life.
A reason you’ll be excited? Listen to their lyrics and chances are you’ll find an instant connection and that it could be on parallel with your life.
Why I’m excited: I listen to A LOT of music but it’s rare for me to get uber excited about a band instantly and that’s the way it was with Youngblood Hawke. “We Come Running” was the first track I listened to and I immediately listened to the other three tracks on the EP and was hooked. From their sound, lyrics, harmonies, it all just was like a perfect storm and I just hope others get to discover this band too.
If you like: Grouplove, Foster The People, fun. and then meld them all together.
Final thoughts: Their EP dropped mid-August and you better hop on the train now because it’s going to be picking up steam fast. It will all make sense when you listen to the EP. Click HERE for the Spotify link to the EP.
My New Music: Family of the Year
22 AugWow, I can’t believe I haven’t put these guys below on the blog after their album has been on repeat for me the past month plus. Without further adieu, your music for today.
Four words: Family of the Year
Who? A four-piece indie outfit from LA with ties to different parts of the country and across the pond.
What? A kickass, highly talented band throwing you a bit of indie-rock and pop, folk, island vibes and more in a way that works and will have you hand clapping and boot stomping in no time.
Why you should listen? Just play their new album, Loma Vista, and you’ll understand exactly why.
A reason you’ll be excited? If you like GROUPLOVE, you’re going to really dig these guys as they feature an array of vocals and variety of instruments to craft a fun, uplifting sound.
Why I’m excited: This band has been around since 2009 but I only recently discovered them and can’t wait to dive into earlier works but am more impressed with their most recent album which is seriously on repeat a few times a week.
If you like: GROUPLOVE, The Belle Brigade, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Lumineers, GIVERS.
Final thoughts: It’s just some damn good music so listen up.

- Passion Pit – yes some “mental health” issues of Michael Angelakos have forced the band to cancel some July dates but next week their new album Gossamer drops and boy oh boy should you be excited. If you haven’t yet given a listen, hop on over to NPR to stream the album.
- The Gaslight Anthem – the Jersey Boys are back with another rocking album, Handwritten, which will also be released next Tuesday. Their fourth album may very well prove to be their best as the fellas once again bring that Springsteenesque rock and roll but with a more refined conviction. This album can also be streamed via NPR, HERE.
- Slightly Stoopid – Miles and Kyle are back with “Top of the World,” the title track off their seventh studio album which drops August 14, 2012. Give a listen HERE.
- Firefly Music Festival in Delaware began today and you better believe if I still lived on the east coast, I would be there right now. Fantastic line-up which includes headliners The Killers and The Black Keys as well as some of my favorites, Michael Franti, Allen Stone, Lupe Fiasco, GROUPLOVE, Walk The Moon, CULTS, The Head and The Heart.
